Outside practice and the highschool player

by dirtlover » Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:59 am

Ok, I have been searching the bucket as I thought I had read it here but I cannot find it so my question is as follows.
Now that we are dark in So. Cal what is the rule for a player as far as practice away from her school team?
Can she practice with her TB team?
Can she practice with another team?
I understand she cannot play in any way, but can she pitch to a catcher at a practice?
Do hitting drills at a practice?

What say you?

She is in North Orange County. Just trying to make sure she doesn't do anything wrong in the eyes of CIF. She would like to continue hitting and pitching at practice with her TB team.

Also, if there is an event with your high school team, like a team dinner, fundraiser, etc, you can't miss that for a travel team practice.
But if there is nothing going on with your hs school team, you are free to do whatever with your travel team, as long as you aren't participating in a "competition".
Your best bet is to call your local CIF SS office, which can easily be googled and get the facts from them.

But as Spaz said, your high school coach might have his/her own set of rules that you have to deal with.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

She can practice every day of the week except if her travel ball coach is also her HS coach, then she can not practice on Sundays. That is a HS rule (though, no one may not know it). I have heard all the excuses on the practicing - only on Sundays, only at night,, only for x hours, etc ..... but practices are allowed and it does not matter when unless the coach is also her HS coach and then Sundays you can not meet. The HS coach can meet with other players not on the same HS -

She can not play in a game at all, regardless - until eliminated from CIF play.

I said that in jest BUT I was curious...It's always been locked in my head that the date was always the Sunday at ValentiMe's Day...I have 1 kid on my team who is a 97 birthday but skipped a year of school in elementary so she is a Freshman while the remainder of my girls are 8th graders...No worries...
