Bracketologist 12U Friendly Format

Tentative 2011 Bracketologist 12U Friendlies - Updated List:

1. Corona Angels 98 - hosting Bracketologist 12U Friendly April 3rd - Fontana
2. San Diego Power Surge 98 - hosting Bracketologist 12U Friendly April 17th - San Diego
3. Double Play 98 - hosting Bracketologist 12U Friendly March 27th - San Pedro.

Ok I have been watching a number of 12U games and I’m a little concerned that very few of our So Cal 12U teams can play three solid (not great) but solid games in a row.

So instead of crying about it – let’s do something to get these teams ready for Alabama! So I have come up with a free Bracky Friendly format (really the ASA Nationals and old Fresno Classic Pool Play format) that requires each team to compete and improve each game in a friendly.

• 8 team format – teams seeded by Bracketologist. Format aligned so the two highest
seeded teams have the potential to play in the third and final game. Friendly does not
have to include teams ranked in the Heybucket 12u pool. Bracky – thanks to his team
of pollsters - can seed any group of 12u teams.

• Every team plays 3 games.

• Every team plays 2 back to back games and has a 45 minute break for lunch
scheduled. No more play your 1st game at 8 am and last one at 4 pm. Last game for
everyone is scheduled to start by 1:30 pm! Example:

o 1st game at 8:30 am
o 2nd game at 10:15 am
o 3rd game at 1:15 pm

Advantages:

• Who you play is determined by how well or poor you play (i.e., no more scheduling
two cupcakes before the “big show down”).
• Quick turn around experience for both winners and losers. Just like the Sunday at
State & Nationals!
• Every game requires a winner and loser (i.e., no ties)
• 1st game is scheduled for 1:30 drop dead to revert to last complete inning or
international tie-breaker at 1:30
• 2nd game for all teams is 6 innings - international tie-breaker if tied after 6.
• 3rd game for all teams is 7 innings - international tie-breaker if tied after 7.
• ASA mercy run rule in effect in 2nd & 3rd games!
• Format ensures that 7 out of 8 teams win at least one game.
• Format ensures that only 1 out of the 8 teams will win all three games.
• Bracky recommends bundling a simple combo meal/entry package to ensure a proper
fundraising opportunity

Unique Twist

• 1st & 2nd games – everyone is required to bat their entire lineup or an equal amount of batters to your competitors’ total roster if lower. Example: Team A has 15 players and Team B has 14 players – both teams are required to bat at least 14.
• 1st & 2nd games –free-substitution
• 3rd game is the championship game for everyone so ASA substitution and batting rules apply.
• Some type of Bracky Trophy, Medal or Award Plaque for the team that wins all 3 games! Bracky will pay for the Award and ship to host!

Requirements to host an “Official Bracketologist Friendly!

• Host needs 4 solid fields.
• Host must have grounds crew and extra supply of toilet paper
• Host must provide umpires (2 required for all 2nd & 3rd games)
• Host must have someone to present the Bracky Award at the end!
• Host must send the 8 teams for seeding to Bracky by the Monday preceding the event.
• Host must announce/post/communicate the Friendly.
• Host can not exclude teams based on Heybucket ranking - but host can reserve four
spots for highest ranked teams!

To ensure that there are not rival Bracketologist Friendlies – there will only be 6 official Bracketologist friendlies and none can be on competing days.

My involvement is 100% free – I seed the teams and provide the award, everything else is host driven.

PM me to reserve your Bracky friendly date!

PS. Yes you can turn your previously scheduled friendly into a Bracketologist Friendly!
