Best off-the-field moment at 14U states

Having a player leave your team can be awkward. The situation often makes people angry and resentful. But this weekend, I wish everyone could have seen what happened been Bomb Squad and Wicked, two teams struggling to try to qualify for berths. Background: A pitcher from 14U Wicked played with Bomb Squad during the dark high school season. After a few months with Bomb Squad, she made a very difficult decision to leave Bomb Squad and return to Wicked. On Friday night, the pitcher's parents sat with the Bomb Squad parents cheering on their former team. On Saturday night, the Bomb Squad players finished a game and immediately found the field Wicked was playing on. Bomb Squad screamed their lungs out for Wicked, with their former teammate's Dad leading them in the cheering. Then, on Sunday, the entire Wicked team, despite the fact that they had just lost, cheered like crazy for Bomb Squad. Both teams were pumped up by the efforts of the other. Parents and coaches on both squads exchanged hugs and rooted each other on ... and both won teams won berths.

I like it when teams can set things aside and enjoy the game and freinds made along the way. Just be sure to send us an update when these two teams meet in a game that matters, maybe the National bracket ? the sad fact in our sport is attitudes always change when somthing is on the line and you have a winner and loser.

Having known the pitcher and her parents for the last 5 years or so, I will say that they are some of the best people around. Actions like these don't surprise me at all.

My DD has been in travel ball for the past 1 1/2 years, and it has been an eye opening experience. Girls move from team-to-team for what ever reason, but I can tell you from my DDs first hand experience, the relationships established between the girls will last for quie awhile.
