Can 8th and 9th graders be offer full ride scholarships?

Just curious as to if its true that 8th and 9th graders can be offer full ride scholarships by D1 schools? Is this a loop hole in the system or is this a practice that has been done forever. My niece is a sophmore now and was told as an 9th grader that colleges would not be able to contact her untill she became a junior. Just want to know which story is true.

Thanks spazz. So its come down to wheres thers a will theres a way. Even with this said is the ncaa known for turning there head the other way when athletes of all are that good at a young age?, or is it the parents that due all the whealing and dealing? Im trying to learn to do my own.

Just an FYI. Most girls do NOT get full scholarships. There are only 12 Scholarships at D1 level and when you do the numbers (25 girls per team) most are on a 1/2 ride with some academic money thrown in. That is why GRADES are very important. You make the coaches' job a lot easier, and DD more recruitable, when you can take less of an athletic scholarship and fill the gap with the school's academic money.
