10U TOP TEAM RANKING (SOCAL) PRE-ASA STATES FINAL RANKING !

by TheCloser » Thu Jun 03, 2010 4:25 pm

Historically speaking, SF 2000 isn't treading new waters, less than 2yrs ago Crunch 98 and AA98 won ASA Western Nationals (1st and 2nd) as first year 10U's.

That is incorrect, AA's was loaded with some talented '97 players that year led by their big lefty 1B who plays for OCBB-Ray now. Crunch was primarily a '98 team but did carry two '97 pitchers one of which plays for American Pastime '97 which is another talented team.

So is it true that usa athletics coach tony was stealing signs from jynx. If it is that is pretty shady.

It's part of the game, but when they get older you can just have your kid put it in someone's back when they do it. :P

FYI - Crunch had 2 97 pitchers in the spring of 2008 but both went back to rec to play All Stars. One of the 2 was invited back to go to Westerns after All Star season was over. They only had the 1 97 on their team at Westerns. Great bunch of 98's!!! :D

Yes, they are a good bunch of 98's and that pitcher did help them make a run and compete during that year. Moreover, the bulk of AA's teams top players were all 97's so SoCalDude was a bit off.

Wow... I read some pretty disturbing comments from parents and coaches at times on these threads, but "TheCloser" takes the cake with that one! Any coach or parent who advocates a player intentionally trying to hurt another player in this "GAME" has no place around the field, especially coaching.

I understand that there are occasions where the girls may "take matters into their own hands", but it should never be encouraged or coached as "part of the game", I don't care how old the girls are. This game is about sportsmanship, winning and losing with honor and building character through good role models. What message does it send to young minds when you coach your players to hurt another player? What kind of a life lesson does that translate into? It's coaching like that that endangers all our kids, on and off the field.

I can only hope my daughter never encounters a coach with your distorted view of "win at all costs" and that your daughter never stands in the batters box with a coach like you calling the signs.

Yes, tell your coach to not steal signs and your daughter is safe.

The game has a way of enforcing itself!

You're right, I'll have to rethink my tactics. I guess at the travel ball level the good 'ol #1 for fastball, #2 for curve, and the closed fist for take won't work anymore and I may have my kid throw at sftball4life's daughter due to my own ignorance. :x

Go LAKERS, time for bball!

Closer - you are absolutely right! Medina is a quality coach (DD played against him when he was coaching the older girls) If his crime is picking signs...it makes him a smart coach not shady!

softball4life need a few more years out of REC to realize it!

Laker Game back on....GO LAKERS!

from what i saw one of the coaches from usa athletics (or maybe it was a parent) was standing behind home plate during the game then signaling to medina on 3rd base. That is more then just picking off signs. That is SHADY. In 10u COME ON!!

MVPETE - While I appreciate the vast level of travel ball coaching experience that you must have to make that comment, it's never appropriate to intentionally hurt a child. I'm not sure why you thing that coaching at a higher level of play affords any coach the right to endanger kids.

In my 10 years of coaching softball at all levels, including my two top five national finishes in 14U ('08 and '09), I called every pitch in every game and never called a pitch to intentionally hit a batter. So, maybe it's not lack of experience that gives me my perspective, maybe it's a belief that teaching good character to young ladies is more important than teaching revenge or payback.

It IS possible to play this game with integrity and sportsmanship and still be successful. I hope that someday all coaches see that.
