Too Many Teams Forming In SoCal "WHO ARE YOU"

Wow somebody from batbusters is pounding there chest.Even though they only won 14s. when FIRECRACKERS was in the championship in 18s/16s/12s at asa. Oh ya they won 16s premier and 12s asa.Batbuster is a great organization, but to have someone probably a parent bash another top organization is pretty classless.They probably played for the FIRECRACKERS and sat the bench or got cut!!!JMO

And contrary to your ill-informed observation, I have tremendous respect for the Firecracker organization, and the FC folks I know know that. The fact that the Firecrackers did so well at Nationals is integral to the humor, so I'm surprised you missed it.

Further, my DD does not play for the Batbusters, or the Angels for that matter, and I would never deign to speak on their behalf.

The best advice for the pissed off dad who wants to start a team NOW ,make sure you use the words Firecrackers in your team name that way you will be pummeled by the Batbusters and Angels.

my DD played with the other organizations and if you take a look at the coaching level and teams they are all the same. yes there are stronger teams out there with stacked talent. That can make any organization look good. but with hard work and dedication from all groups the players have an incredible time playing ball.

I think it was already tried with the 18U Gold classification. If u started a committee to determine who is in and who is out, then those teams would just go somewhere else and play.

Yes, it is sad to see some of these teams that cannot even beat Rec teams playing travel, but they (parents) make the choice to put their kids on these teams!!

My kid played 2 years of wreck ball and all four all star team coaches had the same 2 years of experience coaching softball (BTW 2 were pitcher's Dads). After the second season, those 4 coaches started an independent 12U travel team. The team never came close to qualifying for nationals but they won enough that the parents and players were generally quite content and both the players and coaches improved due to the experience. Now, 10 years later, an established organization exists, born from that 12U team and it's name, with teams in all divisions. They aren't the OC BB, SoCal A's or Firecrackers but they are far from crappy. Two of the kids on that 12U team are now starting in the PAC10 and at least 2 others are also playing D1 ball. One of the coaches is now the HC in one of the bigger name orgs in SoCal.

Is the above the norm? Nope. Is it unique? Nope. All orgs were new at same point.

But I guess that team should never have been formed given the harm that was done to the players by "unqualified" coaches who "the committee" would surely have turned down.

Blind Squirrel that's a great story and I congratulate the coaches that did accomplish this 10 years ago. I believe there are alot of successful travel ball organizations that were created 5-10 years ago. The current landscape has probably changed as I do see alot of travel ball teams created with girls that do not even make Rec Silver All Star teams, but who cares, its their perogative.

It's pretty hard to be successful in SoCal these days as an 18u team and not be part of a large travel organization. (Try getting on any Surf City fields as a newbie 18u team w/out being part of a well known travel org.) Most independent travel teams either join a travel org. or fold by 16 or 18u.

Anyways whether your kid is on a travel team or rec. team - I just think that it is great that our daughters have something better to do than sitting around and texting or facebooking and we have parents that will support them and volunteer coaches that will keep them busy.

I don't know about anyone else thoughts on this but I think it's too many damn UNCLEAN teams are forming in SoCal period 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, 18 GOLD. It needs to be a CENTRAL POLITBARIO committee that grants certain qualified COMRADS to coach in SoCal. Maybe something like what NAZI's go through to pass "THE PURIFICATION STANDARDS" to be able to take a team. So many UNCLEAN teams forming dilutes the GENE pool. Maybe it's me but I hate seeing 2 or 3 PURE AARIONS on a team and the other 10 or so SUBSTANDARDS are SCUM.

If your organization or team hasn't MET MY STANDARDS in the last 5 years, please GAS your organization or team and let your kids join a good COMMUNIST/NAZI team.

We must work together to keep our superior SoCal athletes from being contaminated by these inferior softball teams.
The talent pool has been watered down long enough, it's time to take action! The Committee is being formed and it's up to all like-minded individuals to step up and make your voices heard. Let's get some ideas going on this very serious issue.

Wow, pretty unbelievable original post. Here's the truth. I've been umpiring high level travel ball for 27 years, and have been coaching for 14, respectively. I just formed a team and am playing friendlies and in the "B" division of 16-under Triple Crown tournaments. Why? Because most of my girls at Estancia need competitive playing experience in the off-season. They are good enough to compete, but are at that stage that playing up a little bit will be extremely advantageous for them in the long run, just like the higher level girls did at an earlier age.
I do understand your point, though. Different programs and girls are simply at different levels, however. With that being said, what would you have said if you saw America's Pan-Am team and former Florida star, Brittany Shue, play when she was 14. Yep, my assistant, Papa Joe Salcido took her out of baseball when she was 14 and worked year around with her. That innitial travel ball experience would have had you saying she shouldn't have been competing against the girls who have been playing since they were six. Just saying. Let's keep all of this in perspective in the end, eh?
