As a coach, I believe you should prepare your kids for college. These are college cheers so they need to get used to playing through all that. Rec ball is over!

The Rebel girls and parents are told to cheer for their team and not against other teams or players: like SCREAMING ROCK THE PITCHER A MILLION TIMES IN A ROW" which I personally think is rude and annoying but would never complain about; I'd tell my players to ignore just as Jesse said.

The long "R E B E L" cheer actually comes from Jerry Tarkanian and the Shark cheer from UNLV. That's all.

It's definitely not done when a girl makes an error nor meant to intimidate anyone. Just a long standing college tradition of getting hyped up.

I still think weather you want to admit it or not it shakes the oppsing team. It does more to the team yuou are playing than help your team perform. Last I checked 12u os far from UNLV. Also I want to make sure that this is not meant to be a slam on the Rebels I just used them as an example.

In All Stars a couple years back, the Bonita Valley PARENTS would yell, scream, stomp on the bleachers AND rattle the fence - now THAT was horrible, rude and no one could believe how those parents could do that to 9 and 10 year old kids. The REBELS chant doesn't even compare to Bonita Valley, and the only way to stop the chant is to GET HITS against them... ;)

I agree I can tell you there was a 10u team from Texas called the Red Hots and one of the Dads cut his hair into a mohawk & died it blood red & when ever the other teams pitcher would take the mound he would climb the back stop & let out a blood curdling banshee yell & all th parents would join in, man was this sick. Also another team called TPS every parent had a water bottle filled with beads and the would shake them and chant T-P-S this also rattle the 10 year olds, I guess this is what girls fastpitch needs?????

Personally, I think the parents SHOULD NOT taunt the players in any way. I don't, however, think the REBELS chant is a taunt, just annoying (especially if your team is losing to them) but AM_Softball is right that they do it during college games all the time and it's kind of cool actually watching all the college fans cheering, some of them all painted up - it's fun. Artifical noise-makers have been banned around so cal B tournaments for a while now and I haven't seen parents rattling bottles of coins for about 4 years now either.

I think the girls should play the game without interference from parents, opposing coaches yelling at them in an attempt to confuse or opposing teams making rude cheers. IMO let the girls play, parents cheer FOR their kids and coaches coach...

I'm surprised that it took this long to bring up, we have been doing this cheer for three years now. and we reserve the cheers for tournaments or when we are playing a rival.
Radar you are correct it does come at a certain time and all we are doing is trying to swing that pendulum we call momentum in to our favor. But in know way we are trying to "ROCK THE KIDS" (I think thats exaggerated) there 12 they are tougher then you think.

ASA Nationals, second or third elim game, bases loaded, two outs. Parents of other team are screaming and yelling, shaking the backstop fence, rattling anything they can find to make noise. Goes to full count....
Grand Slam over CF fence. They got real quiet after that.

Oh it's true! we have been quieted b-4 but it's all good thats the way it goes.

Again if you read my original post it & this is not a knock on the Rebels I think they are a good team with or with out it, but you do make my point when you say we just help swing momentum our way, well is that not at the expense of the other kids out on the field. I have been to alot of colledge games and the majority of them do not have Fans trying to rock the players, mainly the dugout cheering.

When the Girls are playing in the games, they should be focused enough to block out any cheering or jeering. As long as parents are not putting down the other team. Stop crying and let the parents feel like they are part of the game. Stop giving our kids excuses to why they cannot get something done. This is FASTPITCH SOFTBALL, not golf or tennis. No quiet please signs.
