12 berths may be a few too many but 3 berths was stupid!

I like 8 a little better but I'm ok with 12.......As far as Regionals goes.......Big deal......I think most teams will go to Western's instead!

Except if you finish in the top 15 even at regionals you can expect the invite. This is where ASA back fills due to nationals not selling out. They seem to invite from Ca 1st. And this year I am sure there is not a sell out. So if the show is where you wanna go, regionals is a good idea!!!

Makes sense!

With softball taken out of the Olympics ASA no longer get Jr. Olympic $$$ from what I understand that was about 3 million a year.

Nope.
12 at State and 3 go to regionals.
From manager's letter:
"12 teams qualify for Nationals from State, 3 teams qualify for Regionals and All Teams qualify for Western Nationals."[/quote]

This is from the So Cal ASA web site -

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: The top twelve (12) teams from each age classification qualify for the ASA National Championship Tournament. State Tournament is open only to Southern California ‘A’ teams. Teams must enter to qualify for other championship play. Exception 10U

REGION CHAMPIONSHIP: The next 8 finishers from the SoCal 'A' State tournament qualify for Regional Championship. Additional teams will qualify for the Regional Championship according to a new Pacific Coast Region 14 qualifying procedure accepted by the PCR 14 Association Commissioners. The top two (2) teams from the Regional Championship will qualify for Nationals. Exception 10U

This will be my first time at States. Is there pool play? Or is it straight double elimination and you could be done on Saturday?

If you can not find a hotel in Hemet there is a newly renevated "Holiday Inn Express" in Perris off of 4th Street. Not a good area but a decent hotel right by the freeway about 10 to 15 minutes from the fields

You are much better off in Temecula, Murrieta, Moreno Valley, Perris or Lake Elsinore even.
