I spoke with the TD & they have hosted in the past. The problem he is having is the venue is a brand new complex, in-fact you guys will be the first use of the facility. His big problem is that the city wants to do a big opening ceremony for the complex(nothing to do with ASA) right smack in the middle of the tournament.

Is Nationals the only legit tourney where a team has to 'qualify'?

Western Nationals is basically one of the first qualifiers for the proceeding year. Don't hate on the kids. It is a great experience and not matter how they got there they deserve to play in a big venue as they have given up rec ball & most have worked hard all year.

Agree with you on that... Daughter team played in it last year and won it...She really didn't care if it was Nationals or Westerns ,she got to spend a fun week with her friends that she worked hard with all year . Parents and coaches don't bash it, will be some good competition.

You are all making it seem to be secondary to anything else out there. Yes we all want the Big nationals. But like my hubby always says, "going to any other, TCS, USSSA etc., is like kissing your sister". We play ASA, you go to ASA Nationals. TCS, all it takes is to enter a tournament to go. Yes that is what it takes for westerns, but there are only 2 ways to get there. State and regionals. TCS has 2 tournaments a month, whats the challenge! You win any other nationals what do you get? You win westerns and a berth to the big show next year. I beleive it to be more elite then the others, again second to the big show. But more important, you play ASA, JMHO!

As for getting info on whats going on up on WA. I have been talking to the TD too and sending emails. He has begun to circulate emails to a large distribution list. Send him an email to get into the loop!

Its a great tournament... We played 10 games last year, if we would have went to the big show we probably would have got 4-5 games and been done by friday. She wanted Nationals this year ,but our team got some bad breaks at states.(Batbusters) Now our goal is to Defend her championship from last year. Still like looking at that trophy even if it say's Western Champions.

Some teams that Qualified for Nationals only won 1 game, so is it really legit?

Really??? Where has a team only won 1 game and qualified for USA/ASA Nationals? Please give me an example. If this has happened, I'm sure it's not the norm so how can you question the legitimacy of Nationals??? :?:

I wasn't bashing it, it's just that info is misleading about States. What should have been clarified is that the top 13 go to Nationals and everyone else can go to Westerns(or try to qualify for Nationals thru a Regional tourny). I thought I read a post somewhere on HB about who 'qualified' for Western Nationals, that's where I was misled. :?

Also, I don't know of one team that won just one game and is going to Nationals? What bracket were they in??

SoCal Breakers:

If your daughter's team won Western Nationals last year, then don't they get an automatic bid to nationals in Indiana this year?
