Need info for New Startup

Just looking for info.Never started a team before. We are forming a practice/friendlys only 16u team, not so competitive for girls that just want some playing time. I Know we will need to find a field for practice and have tryouts. But what about insurance and other things that I don't know about .

If your players were registered with ASA through their rec league or another travel team, they are covered until January 1st. To get fields, most cities ask for your team insurance. If your team had been registered with ASA earlier in the year, your team insurance coverage is still good. If you dont have team insurance, you can buy it through someone like USSSA or Bollinger for about $100. Most policies are on a yearly basis. The good thing about getting it through USSSA is that their year usually starts in August instead of January, so if you got a policy through them, it will continue on past January 1st, whereas your ASA policy will expire and you will need another one starting in January.

Finding fields is very tough and can be expensive. Your best bet is to hook up with someone you may know, particularly a local high school where some of your kids may be playing and hope you can use their field for free. Most rec league fields will be taken up by rec fall ball teams and travel teams have to wait in line to get those fields. It is always a challenge for travel teams to find a field.

If you are only doing this for the fall and into the early spring, and only doing friendlies, go cheap with uniforms by just getting them some matching t-shirts with numbers, and ask each player to get their own pants and socks. Even the top travel teams usually wear t-shirt type uniforms for friendlies rather than wearing out the expensive uniforms.
