SO Cal Player Agreements

by LVTHEGAME » Wed Aug 24, 2011 11:12 am

In an earlier post I read about players ageements for SoCal Players. What do you coaches think of them. Are they a good thing or think they should not have them.

Player agreements are pretty much enforceable. I would go further, and say that most coaches getting player agreements are communicating weakness to the parents. In the end you have one tool to manage unruly parents and players, refuse to play them, if that does not work, cut them.

Refuse to play them? Once you have spoken to the player and the parents about the negative behaviors to no avail, then demonstrate your integrity and cut them forthwith! Not playing them only exacerbates the unacceptable behaviors of the players and her family thus further impacting the team. Cutting a player and stating the reason as you do so sends a clear message to not only the misbehaving player and her family, but to the rest of the team. Although my DD has never been benched (that I know of) for these reasons, as parents we have watched the relationship between a players family and the coaching staff deteriorate to the point that it negatively impacted the entire team. Had the coach taken the high road and cut the player when it became clear his previous conversations regarding the offending behaviors weren't getting the point across, the team could have been spared further drama and this experience could have turned into a a lesson learned for the outgoing player and her family.
