PItching into a hole

by SoCal Breakers » Tue Jun 22, 2010 1:38 pm

My daughter and our other pitcher from our team came down with arm problems this weekend.
Was wondering if any other teams playing in Batbusters tourny pitchers have had problems.
The field we were playing on had a huge hole in front of mound and everytime she threw it seems like she was unbalanced. Never had Arm problem before.
After game she put ball in hole and from dugout you couldn't even see the ball.
Both our pitchers pitched a game on this field. (Pain didn't come till next day) They did try to fix hole but the pitchers would just keep kicking out the dirt with drag foot.

Fields #2 and #3 at Peralta were terrible! Huge holes, and a big rock in front of the rubber on field #3...
Field #1 wasn't too bad. My daughter, and our other pitchers complained about them too. But no injuries...

Those fields need some serious work...

Fields 2 & 3 at Yorba were the same way. No one reported arm trouble, but with the large hole created at the landing area, we had a pitcher land on the 'edge' and go to the ground with a rolled ankle. She was OK, but then I'm sure she worried about that vs. the task at hand. To their credit, we played on Yorba 3 Sunday and some work had been done on the holes.

In AZ, most of the work is keeping the fields from getting baked too hard. But holes are an issue any time there is softer dirt and heavy use. It is a real time consuming process to correct it, you can't just push dry dirt back in the hole. I know a guy who really takes pride in keeping his fields nice. One day he was on the field next to our practice working on the circle. Add dirt, soak, pack, repeat. He worked on it for over an hour, then he went to work on the batters boxes.
