Playing shorthanded

I need some help speaking ASA, had this happen to me last week. I had 9 players at the game and on the lineup. One of my players is injured slightly while baserunning. I tell her to sit while we take the field. The other team is already shorthanded. Thats another story, I tried to make a gentlemans agreement that we did not want the other team to take an out but was advised "Thats the rule". Anyway all my players, but the one, take the field. The BU then asks me "Is she gonna play?" to which I reply "Yes. But she is sitting out right now to get some ice on her hand." The BU then says "Well is she in or out?" I say "She is out for right now." I am then told she cannot sit on the bench if she is there. I must put her on the field or remove her from the game. Which I do and play shorthanded. No big Whoop. So my question. How many are you required to put on the field?

If they are in the game, they go on the field unless they are the DP and obviously, you were not playing with the DP.

And, BTW, no "gentlemen's agreements" allowed by any intelligent umpire.

Thanks MTR I was totally wrong on that one. Won't be the last. I can understand the agreement point of view. Just trying to do the right thing.

ASA rules allow you to play with 8 if you start with 9.

If you start with 9 can you bench(substitute out) one hurt kid and reenter them later for themselves if they recover?

The answer is no they can't comeback if they leave. My phantom substitution reentry scheme won't work.
