10 or 15 yards ?

Illegal formations are the 5 yard variety.

Good rule, I am sure everything had been tried before the rule was enacted.

Thanks for the replies. I was just curious. I coached boys TB for years, and in USSSA and TC the OF must be 20 ft. behind the base line. The player is not just a slapper, she actually has some power and hit away against this defense. I asked the ump, and he didn't seem to know. I knew I could find answers here. Learn something new everyday!

Anybody?

The pitcher must be in the circle, the catcher must be behind the plate, and that's it - the other 7 can be standing on 1st base.

I believe there is such a rule in PONY- was at a rec all-star tourney back in 10u in which the ump said OF had to be outside the IF(tourney and inter-town league used PONY rules) Only time I ever heard of that or saw the situaion come up

That may have happened, but it is 100% wrong. There is absolutely no such rule in PONY. In fact, the rule clearly states, "Players of the team in the field may be stationed anywhere in fair territory, except the catcher...and pitcher." PONY Rule 4-2.

Other than the catcher, the only geographical restrictions on the other players is that they be completely within fair territory at the time of the pitch.

... maybe for the King And His Court ... Otherwise, prior to starting the delivery, the pitcher needs to be in contact with the pitchers plate.

Which is where? And that isn't necessarily true. Haven't you ever seen a pitch delivered when the pitcher wasn't in contact with the pitcher's plate? :o

Yeah, whatever.

Only seen rule in 8u rec. leagues that state outfielders must start on the grass b4 pitch. My slapper daughter has seen every gimick defense played against her. Saw 3rd base come within 15 ft of plate b4 pitch.

Told her to show bunt and then swing away on 1st pitch. Next pitch 3rd base played further back and she bunted for a base hit.
