A force out has nothing to do with how the out was obtained. But by the fact that the runner is forced to vacate the previous base and becomes out before reaching the next base. The same scenerio could happen without the collision, which in this story sort of brings up unrelated questions.
Runners on 1st and 3rd, ground ball up the middle fielded behind the bag. If the runner from first stops halfway to second and the SS walks with the ball over to her and tags her out, meanwhile the runner from 3rd already has touched home. Still its no run, the runner from 1st was forced to vacate first and the out was made prior to her reaching second.
