No, actually! At least in NCAA. The on site administrator cannot be a student or a coach (of the team playing).

Regarding Ejecting a spectator --

ASA rules are for championship play and in championship play you will have people in positions to handle an issue with a spectator, and that's great.

At other venues, that is not always available. I've run the gammit from ejecting a spectator, to ejecting a coach over a spectator, to having a TD take care of it. It just depends on the situation, people involved, and resources - ie that is a spot decision based on what I have available to me. We always have Rule 10 to take care of any situations where the resources to handle a spectator are not available.. and if I say they go, they go. End of story on that, you do what you gotta do on the field. You dont sit and let a moronruin a game. They CAN be jerks IMO, and I'm pretty good at ignoring that.. they just cannot cross the line or rise to the level of complete game disruption.

Ah yes rule 10, the nebulus rule that allows an umpire to make up rules(handle situations) that are not in the rule book.

Please site ASA rule where a spectator can be ejected. I thought only a player or coach can be ejected. Maybe the coach gets tossed becasue of a spectator.

Please site where I suggested a spectator was to be ejected.

I just stated it was a myth believed by those folks.

Furthermore, speaking ASA and probably most other rule sets, the umpire has no authority over a spectator unless they enter the field of play. We have enough to do without being the crowd police. And, NO, I don't care what they are saying or if it upsets the players, not the umpire's job or purpose of being there.

That does not mean that I MUST continue umpiring a game being disrupted by spectator(s). The coach can handle the spectators. If they elect to ignore my direction to handle the spectator(s), they can leave and I'll talk to the assistant and work my way down the line until someone finally realizes we aren't continuing until it is handled. And, BTW, I'm not sitting there hanging around all day. And if they just want to be hard headed, I am literate enough to sign my name in a book and the numbers 7-0. :o

MTR,

Now we're talking. I understand the myth part now. Also the ramifications if the coach can't control the spectators.

Why would it fall on a coach to handle someone who heppens to be sitting in their stands? What if the problem party is not associated with their team? Other than citing Rule 10, which would work for me BTW, where does the rules book support requiring a coach to police the stands?
