The only defender that I can think of that is allowed to "stand her ground" is the firstbaseman waiting for a throw from the infield.

Also, how you described the runner at third base getting her lead in foul territory and then coming back in fair is a baserunning fundamental.

I wouldnt talk to you or any other coach after that game either. Especially about a particular call. Most, 99% umpires, would not provide you with a post game rules clinic.

If your runners are border line malicious he could be letting you know so he doesnt have to dump them and likely you as well. If they werent malicious, then I dont understand why he didnt call OBS (based on your scenario). Thats my best guess... presuming he knows the rules at all - which is in doubt at this point.

Hey Wade, what if ya knew the coach for a while (like...ten years) and you got along together. Even had a lunch or two during tourneys. Would ya talk to him then? Show him what's in the book?

The issue could be your runners "teardrop" turn. She established her baseline heading toward home plate. If her turn takes her out of the three foot baseline then your runner could be called out if a play is made and their is contact. Also if in the umpires opinion your runner is going out of her way to draw contract his interpretation of malicious intent comes into play. Best practice is to have your runner retreat, not make a teardrop turn.

Depends. I have taken the time to show a rec league coach rules. Just for instructional purposes.

A travel ball coach - I've never done that.

We aint going to lunch though, either way. For instance I intend to meet a few of the peeps at Fresno Force, but I cant hang out with them. Thats not a proper thing to do IMO.

This stuff just isnt correct.

Unless there is a tag being attempted, that runner could run to left field touch the fence, do the funky monkey followed by a cart wheel, spin like a top, run to center field, dump the dirt out of shoe, then tip toe to 3rd base.

The "3 foot base path rule" never applies until a defensive player has the ball for the tag.

I would not recommend having lunch with a coach that has a team playing in the tournament during the tournament.
