So, here is where I'm looking for trouble ... WHO in this definition is " attempting to execute a play " ? Can the offense confuse a defensive player while they ( the offense ) are attempting to execute a play ? :evil:

Good that you are thinking, newbie. However, you may be overthinking this.

Definitions section is just a glossary of the terms used in the rules, not THE rule.

Speaking ASA, no one. Because the batter cannot be retired, shes just taking the long route back into the batters box between pitches, so there cannot be a play, and there cannot be INT.

Thanks for humoring me guys ... As you both point out there's a ball on the batter supported by NFHS, NSA & ASA ... But allow me to take it one step further ... If we believe this is intentional by the offense ( I realize that might be a stretch for HS, but not NSA-ASA )... it seems we would warn the Coach and Batter.
Also I'd like to re-do this situation somewhat ... R1 on first, less than 2 outs, 1-2 count on B2 who swings and misses, F2 drops the ball ... B2 runs to first, R1 runs to second ... F2 overthrows F3 ( or hits the BR who is outside of the 3' running lane ) ... Can we have interference here by a retired batter for 2 outs ?
My next question since my brain must not be working and the caffeine hasn't kicked in ... DMC ? Defensive Mis-Calculation ? Dumb mother catcher ? Dad's master card ?
Where is USC played Wade ... I don't think I've seen that in the East .... We have USSSA, Softball Nation and others ...

No, unless that batter found a way to intentionally place themself in front of the throw with their back turned ;) Like the count, the defense is expected to know the game situation. ASA specifically addresses in 8.7.P.NOTE.

USC= unsportsmanlike conduct.

Dude, officiating is more than just a really cool looking uniform. You gotta get with the program.
