Busted ... I'm still not getting what you are not getting about obstruction ... obstruction can happen between any of the bases, the umpire can protect the runner up to the base where in his/her opinion, that runner would have gotten had there been no obstruction .... so, relating to this OP ... if F1 had overthrown F4 way down into the right field corner, and F4 obstructed the BR, and in the Umpires opinion that BR would have made 2nd , 3rd or home had there been no obstruction ... the BR is protected to that base but not beyond ... which means the blue signals delayed dead ball and the play continues ... if the Blue has the BR proteceted to 3rd, and the BR passes 3rd, the DDB is off, no protection ... If the Blue has them protected to home and they stop at 3rd, the Blue , after the play can award them home ... Where the obstruction occurs has little to do with it ... what has everything to do with it is where,in the Blues opinion, the base runner would have gotten to had there been no obstruction ...

G,
Thanks, but I understood the points you made well enough before you explained it.

It is sometimes the way it is executed (or not) on the field that I wonder about.

The question of whether obstruction on the base protects the runner between that base and the next was one of several points extensively discussed but neither clearly nor conclusively answered in a thread on that other board.
