Now that is refreshing, an umpire who admits he/she is human and made a mistake.

Mr. Jackson and the rest of the Impact Gold staff should be applauded for their handling of the situation.

I completely agree! So many coaches could have/would have gone ballistic in this situation and Mr. Jackson showed that he is above that, held his composure and moved on. Cudos to the coach and the organization!

This past week, the best ballplayers and best teams in the country showed us some incredible softball.

I was out there all week and there were many outstanding plays/performances by these superb athletes. Maybe next year ESPN will be able to capture more of these on video (hoping to see more than just the Championship game on TV).

You know I am glad that the umpire had it in him to come back and apologize but, why did't this get talked about before the game(s) got started? How do you think the girls from IMPACT feel carrying around that high dollar KEY CHAIN they got instead of those championship rings?! Guess we will never know who was the better team. To all the girls of IMPACT that were there that day, keep your heads up high and don't let that get in the way of your goals! Good job in the past couple of weeks and hope to see your revenge next year for those rings!

Probably really bad.

The bottom line is these ladies have played thousands of games in their lifetime and have had calls go for them and against them. Unfortunately this was the "big game" at this event. And, in the big picture this one game will not decide whether or not one of these ladies receive a scholarship.

Actually, reading the explanation he posted, it appears that it wasn't a question of judgment, but rather a misinterpretation of a playing rule.

As such, if the coach knew the right rule, and he understood that he had to talk to the umpire that made the call for his explanation, and from that explanation it became evident that this was a misapplied playing rule, and he knew the correct procedure for filing an official protest...

Well, I think you can see where I'm going with this.

The Ump is a great guy for posting his appology like many have said, but he could have been a great guy during the game when the coach challenged the call, and conferred with the other 3 umps on the field to make sure he interpreted the play correctly. It was definately a game changer.

You actually admitted a mistake- You must not be an ASA Umpire- collapsable fences and such do make your calls more difficult-
