What is it for the batter to get in the batter box from the end of the previous inning??

When the pitcher is through warming up, and the umpire declares "play ball," the batter gets the usual 10 seconds to take his/her place in the box. If he/she does not enter the box, a strike will be called. No pitch needs to be thrown.

What if the pitcher says she does not want her warm ups pitches?

Ran into this problem this weekend.
Catcher comes off the field, coach talked to the girls for a few seconds, she got her gear off and helmet/batting gloves on and in the process of her walking to the plate to hit the pitcher threw a ball. Ump called it a strike and said she had 1 min from when we left the field to when she had to be in the box..
Is that what happens when the pitcher declines her warm up pitches??

I agree with Spazsdad. I'm probably going to allow the 1 minute break between innings if the batter is hustling to get to her spot.

If, on the other hand, the batter is lollygagging for the sole purpose of delaying the game and the pitcher and defense are ready to go, I'll instruct the batter into the box. At that point, she has 10 seconds.

I've not seen a pitcher waive her warm up pitches too often. I've seen it in timed games where time is running out and one team is trying to stall and the other team is trying to get another inning in or something to that effect. That being said, it's possible the umpire felt one team was stalling. The coach talking to the girls for a few seconds; catcher maybe taking longer to get her gear off, walking slowly to the plate. and, if the umpire has already cautioned the coach to speed things up a bit... all this might get you a strike call.

Can't say this happened in your particular instance, but, that's the only thing I could see that would get the umpire to call a penalty strike.

STOP! Before this gets really stupid, and it is almost there. The batter has 10 seconds to enter the batter's box after being directed to do so by the umpire.

That is it. NOTHING else matters.

Time was running out, but the ump never gave the batter a 10 second warning. Once the minute came up and the pitcher threw a pitch, she called it a strike with our girl walking to the plate.

In conclusion here, you get a min at the least with an added 10 second warning directed by the home plate umpire??

Nope, not what I said. I said that once I declare "play ball" the batter has 10 seconds to get set in the box. I don't need to say "you have 10 seconds" because this is a rule in the book. I also said that I might give the 1 minute unless the offense seems to be just trying to delay the game. In which case I will direct the batter into the box.

I will not allow the pitcher to pitch until the batter is set; however, a pitch does not need to be thrown for me to issue a strike for violation of the 10 second rule.
