Almost at wits end

My DD plays on a pretty good 16U team. We don't have any problems with the players or the parents. Its the just the usual lack of play time. She is a good player and works very hard to EARN her spot. She knows its all for not, but she loves the game and just wants to play. We have 15+ players and they give the most time to pitchers and coaches kids, so its basically an expensive ride on the pine. My question is, do you suck it up and ride out the season (we've done it before), or just quit now and take the family on vacation!!!

If your team is not committed to some major end of season tournament- leave, take a vacation to enjoy family time together and next year, join another team. I wish I could

You suck it up and ride out the season. Teaches DD that valuable lesson in life. Next season do your homework and find a better fit for her. JMHO

This is just my worthless opinion so take it with a grain of salt.....At 16's, there is nothing wrong with 15+ players. You should be doing mostly showcases anyways. Equal play time etc. unless girls have specific coaches there to see them....if you are on a team that is mostly doing showcase tournaments and still not getting any playing time then you need to leave. Either your kid isn't good enough...Shame on the coach for picking her up and not teaching her!....Or he is Mr./Mrs. Daddy/Mommyball......Shame on you for not checking the team and coach out better beforehand....

Loving the game is great but that doesn't give anybody the right to have playing time. You made the comment "Usual" which tells me that this has happened to you before which also tells me that maybe your daughter is not quite up to par compared to the girls who play her position.

If the coach would purposely put a kid in a position game after game and week after week when there is a stud sitting on the bench just because they are a coaches kid or a pitcher....THEN MY FRIEND, HE/SHE IS JUST A DOOOOOOOOSHBAG.......Which would also tell me that you chose the wrong team.....AGAIN.....

I know there are plenty of coaches out there that do the daddyball thing but I see less of them in 16's....Rampid in 12's and 14's but not so much in 16's......My guess is that maybe parent goggles might be a small part here but I could be wrong.....In 16's anyways, why are the pitchers playing so much?.....Shouldn't they be pitching? Do they not have any faith in your daughter to play defense and that is the reason the coach is playing the pitchers?

I am just playing devil's advocate here obviously but there could be other things to look at.....Or it could be daddyball......Go to a different team!

We know better (including our DD) so we really did our homework on this one. Problem is they always tell you one thing and then they change it up with no warning. One day the coach says this is the team we're going with... then the next practice - we have 4 new players. The sad thing, the old players we're good and the new players are just that - new! We've seen it too many times before. It just sucks!

I would leave, commitment is a two way street, dont waste anymore time and money. My advice when choosing a team is to find a team where you are not competing for the same position as coaches DD, you will NEVER beat out little Suzy no matter how much better your DD is

I agree with Donnie. But I think what ever decision you make it’s the right one. As long as you’re looking out for what’s best for your DD you cant go wrong.

If have to do what you feel is right for DD. However, don’t make thing bad for the rest of the team.

If this team is going to Nationals (ASA, TCS, USSSA, AFA, etc.), you should make a decision very soon. If you leave the team prior, you do not want to create problems for the rest of the players. I can understand your hesitating to spend serious travel money and time for a situation you no longer believe in. Don’t disrupt the rest of the team by quitting just before they go.

Same goes if you stay. Don’t become a complainer and try to bring down everyone else. This may be harder to do when traveling. You will be around the team almost 24/7. If you feel things are at a point where you can’t just “grin and bear it”, maybe it is time to leave.
