Has anyone had any luck getting money back

We were playing in a college exposure tournament. The Worth Showcase at Midwest sports complex in Indianapolis. It rained all weekend. We played one game for 1 hour the whole weekend. They were trying to get the games in, but they lost. This was around $500 or $550 to play. I would think we should get something back. They are saying no. I would be happy with a discount in a different tournament. The coach isn't getting anything back from the people in charge just a list of next years tournaments. I know tournaments don't like to give money back but only one game!! I am thinking we may not go back to Midwest for anything.

- No refund if a team withdraws, but that wasn't the case here.
- Rain out policy: In the event of inclement weather, the tournament director has the right to alter the tournament in whatever ways necessary to reach conclusion. (options include shortened games, or rule changes to get in the proper number of games). The head coach is responsible for finding out scheduling changes. An inclement weather phone number will be provided.

Some events hold back 50% on a complete washout - enough to cover their costs and probably also their expected profit. On a partial rainout, they keep more to cover additional costs and refund the rest based on games cancelled.

I would be more leery of entering events by that TD than the facility - I think Midwest SC is used by multiple TD's.

Rule one don't put anything down in print. I never found anything about rain outs in the information that was sent out. I would have thought the teams would have gotten a discount on a future tournament. It is looking like they are going to make mad and hope we forget in a year and come back.
This is one time I wish we had a lawyer on the team to send a letter for us. Not worth spending money on to hire a lawyer.

If you can't find an attorney to write a letter, send one of your own off to the better business bureau for the state you were in.

Well ... since they shortened the tournament from 5 games to one game, who was announced the winner ?

If that was not agreed to, then I would let that TD know that I will be posting his name and his organization's name on Heybucket along with the way my team was treated, encouraging all teams to bypass future tournaments run by this TD and the organization. I would proceed to electronically trash the TD and organization, encouraging all other teams that were ripped off at this "tournament" to share their horror stories and spread the word about this individual stealing money from non-profit youth organizations.

Then I would take a moment in retrospect and ask why I would allow MY team to sign up for a "showcase" tournament in Indiana in October only to piss and moan about the SURPRISE rainout of the majority of games. You lost $500 of your team's money because you were essentially stupid.

yeah if you're an ass and you cant think of anything constructive to say... why post if it's just to make somone with a legitimate question feel stupid.....it really says nothing in the way of good sportsmanship...........or does that not apply here amongst all these coaches.....?

Actually my reply was ingenious, offering two seperate points of view. You may be too stupid to realize it, but both of my options were viable.

Sportsmanship has nothing to do with this. Analyzing when/where/why you spend your team's money is paramount prior to committing the funds to play. Playing in Phoenix, for instance, can be a great idea or a horrible one....depending on when the event is taking place. Park City, UT can be a great place to play TCS's World Series....in July or August.....but if they were holding a showcase in November, I might think twice about it.

Apparently you chose not to consider that type of information and wasted your team's money......but I'm the one who is an ass.....OK.
