On April 4, 2000, Osterman struck 21 batters in a row against Langham Creek High School to record a perfect game at the age of 17. Considering the general equality of talent at the high school level, her feat betters the Major League record for strikeouts in a game shared by Roger Clemens and Kerry Wood at 20; moreover, Osterman collected one more strikeout in two less innings in a performance on par with 1950's Minor League phenom Ron Necciai.

In 2001, she struck out 33 batters in a 14-inning 1-0 shutout over Cy-Fair High School. The performance ranked 10th on the strikeouts-in-a-single-game list, behind:

It's Kirsten (not Kristen) Slouber, who now plays CF for LMU. Unless LMU makes the regionals (they need to go 4-0 this weekend, AND get some help), Sunday will be Slouber's last college games. With 2 more hits (she has 4 games this weekend), she'll set the LMU career hits record.

Young ladies throwing 450 pitches in a game....and we don't bat an eye. What would be said in the media if any HS baseball pitcher threw 200 pitches in a game....you would actually have child abuse activists motivated to intervene.

Just a week or so ago here in Maryland, Stephanie Speierman of Hammond High School (she has signed with Michigan) struck out 25 batters in 7 innings. From the 2nd inning on they had a new catcher they were trying to get some experience.
