A warning to all TB coaches

What's on your mind?

by Safebyahare » Thu Aug 01, 2013 12:46 am

Times have changed. The new age of Tech. is here. With the advance of the smart phones, and recording what you say at your team meetings, or to individual conversations and being able to snap shot your tweets or any other means of communications you choose. Your behavior will be captured!
For most coaches this is not an issue,,,but for the few, this will.
Now if you are a coach that calls a college to bad mouth a player that left your team or one that you disagree with parents on some issue. Be for warned.
At some point someone will consider you a terrorist hiding behind a school of children.(the other players) and call you out for what you are, and have proof for all to see. Collateral damage will not be an issue because you are dealing with their child.
Now go play ball.

How long until we start hearing of lawsuits for "Tortious interference with business expectancy" against travel ball coaches who do just that?

When I have such conversations (almost always good conversations) with college coaches it is never done via any electronic media. I try to have those conversations on the side-bar of softball fields, away from radar parent ears.

Ignorance must be bliss. I wrote this after someone shared with me a story of this very thing. In my opinion I just find it to be despicable, and a lack of moral compass. Is anything positive gained by this kind of action?
Why would a coach try to ruin a young player who has gotten that big break to advance? To me this is not constructive coaching, it's a destructive ego.
I just don't get it.

Coaches who engage in retribution should be sued. OC Lionettes Gold did this to one of my players. She went on to a 4 year career at the Big 10 school she had committed to as a sophomore. The college coach saw through this "icon's" bitter tirade about loyalty. She switched from the Lionettes to the Rookies team I was coaching at the time during the fall season. That coach was and is a POS.

There are some TB coaches with huge egos, but I think college coaches are smart enough to see right through them and their smear tactics.

Agree that bad mouthing a player because she left your team is a POS move. Small markets have this happen more than the bigger areas.

For our DD, it worked out great. She did not want to play for coaches that would take input from a POS. I know some other girls this hurt them quite a bit. In the end most were able to find better deals for them.

I've always hated the way Sam beats around the bush, stammering and hemming and hawing his way to a point.
