There are 13 year olds who are bigger, faster and stronger than the vast majority of 18 year olds. When you see them on the field competing well with 18 year olds it kind of gets attention. Do they always turn out as hoped/hyped? Nope. Is it the norm? Nope.
There are certainly parents whose perceptual prism prevents them from accepting that a kid 4 or 5 years younger than their kid is perceived as a better prospect or worse, is currently a better player than their kid. That doesn't change reality.
