SCOREBOOKS

What's on your mind?

by Coach11 » Tue Feb 10, 2009 11:46 am

Anyone got any recomendations on a particular brand/style of scorebook they use?

I've always had them handed to me at the begining of the season by the team/league/orginization at hand. I'm pretty sure the main criteria for most of these orgs is price....so they're usually pretty basic.

I'm wondering if there isn't something better out there.

I like to make alot of annotations throughout the game, and the boxes are usually pretty tight. Even if I only fill in the bare minimum of info for each at bat, the boxes can get pretty cluttered and hard to read at some later point, when I might want to review individual players performances from a weekend tourney.

Thanks....looks interesting.

Seems they consider baseball/softball the same....i.e. 10 innings per page.

Wondering if there isn't one out there specifically for softball.....maybe only 8 innings.

Most tournament games we play, don't see 6 complete.

Our HS coach made one herself, that looked like a blank calendar that was about 10 in. X 10 in.

The "line up" went down the left s side (like normal) but you didn't switch columns, for innings. You just made a dark line and went on down the page.

The only time you switched columns was when you had batted around.

I sometimes went ahead and noted the inning in the square. Since the square is 1 in. X 1 in. there is plenty of room to write in. You draw in the basepaths as you go, if someone is on base.

She always had me note who had advanced the runner, so I needed lots of room.

Or if the call was questionable, she wanted me to mark ??, so we could remember.

Or if 3rd base snagged a LD that was remarkable, she had me mark 5LD !!!

The only problem was if i had to coordinate with the other score keeper and I was showing them something strange.

I would much rather start with a blank piece of paper, than a scorebook.

I would recommend Glover's. My parents complained when we tried to use 100 game book, not enough room to keep all the stats that you want regarding hit location, i.e. - those little boxes can fill up pretty fast :o

Sports Authority has some "large print" 30 game scorebooks that I like, boxes are much bigger easier to make notes in. I like the large boxes because my eyes aren't what they used to be. Must be time for me to become an umpire

+1 on Glovers

Pages make sense, laid out well and large enough to actually post "stuff"...
Being from NorCal, what do I know anyway???

We use the Chick's sporting goods brand which is made by Glovers. Same pages inside with a different cover. The Chick's book has a card stock cover vs a plastic cover on the Glovers. There is about a $4 difference between the two which makes a difference when you go through several of them through out the season.

My wife keeps the official book for our team and we also use this book. It's easy to use, lots of room for notes and easy for me to read after a game.

I recommend.
