What's on your mind?

by Lyn-Z S. » Fri Aug 03, 2012 12:58 pm

My DD is moving into second year 12's. She's a pitcher. Fastball around 63-65. Hits locations pretty well. But, misses out of the zone consistently with her rise ball. Do you think she's ready for the move, or should I keep her another year in rec?

Did she mean 65 feet? If so at 12u that makesw an outfielder or short stop. If she is pitching then tell the field director for the rec league to stop using the baseball mound. :D

Lyn-Z, many D1 college pitchers don't throw mid-60s, so talking about a 12-year old throwing that hard is gonna generate some ... skepticism.

In answer to your question, if your DD is enjoying Rec and it's competitive enough, encourage her to stay with her friends and improve her control. And, as someone said in another post, give your wallet a break. When Rec gets too painful to participate in, second-year 12U is a time when many kids go travel.

Good luck.
