Once again rain screwing up a national championship.

The weather was great in Irvine and Huntington Beach today

It's unfortunate when a national championship is decided by the weather. Of course, the alternative is to postpone or delay the game, or restarting the game the next day or.... but often the bravado of umpires and tourney directors surpasses common sense and the concept that the players should determine outcome.

We played 14Nats in Midland. In the top of the 2nd, no score, we were on the field, the sky just dumps, 3" deep puddles 12' long from the bags...literally, in a matter of 4-5 minutes. Our pitcher walked about 6 batters as she couldn't hold onto the ball. Fielders would go down for a grounder only to have the ball stop dead 10 feet in front of them in a deep puddle. Total mayhem with our team/coach pleading with blues to "stop the game" and the other team (from Texas... oddly enough) saying "play on!!". 4 runs later the top half of the inning is over and the blues call for a break. Oh, how nice of them. Incompetent Nat's tour director buys into the inept calls by the blues and we wait for two hours until the weather is suitable enough for the other pitcher to grip the ball and the field has drained rather than finish out the inning under the same conditions. Pathetic. Yes, we lost that game, call it sour grapes if you wish. But all the scoring occured during the downpour. Rank incompetence by some officiating entities cannot be underestimated, giving a bad rep to the group as a whole.

In my Pollyanna world the players determine the outcome.

The other side of the coin is that Alabama was better at adjusting to the situation than Oklahoma. Traina had to pitch in the rain also.

Agreed, if it didn't rain it was a different game. No doubt Ricketts, with her spins cannot work in the rain. Either way, great game.

On TV it looked like the rain was much harder during the bottom of the 4th than previous in the game. Then in the top of the 5th the rain all but disappeared.
Bama got their first run on 3 straight WPs. You can't say it wasn't the rain.

Yeah, that was it, the rain. Never saw that excuse coming.........

Ricketts is a great pitcher, but she was also having a bit of control issues the night before. She was able to work through it that time.

the rain was a major factor. . I was also amazed that the catcher did not block any of the pitches instead of trying to glove them.

In the end the two best teams were in the finals. It was a great WCWS.
