Scoring???

I have a scoring question that I’m trying to figure out. Here is the scenario:

One out with a runner on 1st base (R1). Batter hits hard ground ball toward 2nd. 2nd goes to field the ball and is mowed down by R1. It was unsure if 2nd would have made the play but she had a good chance. The umpire calls R1 out for obstruction. How do you score the batter? I’m guessing fielder’s choice but not sure if it could have been scored a base hit either…

Obviously if 2nd would have had the opportunity to make the play, there are many ways this at-bat could have ended (base hit, 4-6 FC, 4-3 PO, ROE, etc.). But since she was obstructed, does the defense or batter get the benefit?

This is not automatically an FC. The key in your description is that you were unsure if F4 would have been able to make the play. With an interference play, if you don't think a properly made play on the ball would put the runner out, it is a hit. Otherwise an FC. Whenever you are not sure the benefit of the doubt goes to the batter and it is scored a hit. This is from the National Fastpitch Coachs Association scoring guide.
