Not so in VA. ... In general, travel teams could be considered A or B ... Most REC teams considered B & C ... There are still travel teams in these parts that use REC as their pre-season while school is in session ...

You are technically right on your definitions-

Here in CT there are several "A" teams that would have trouble beating good "B" teams. There are several cases of very good town teams jumping into the TB fray and being successful. Locally there is a league of local town "all-star"teams (technically B) that play each other. That league allows multi-town travel teams(technically A) to also play in the league

"B" teams are mostly "A" teams that are trophy hunting. . .

When we were in Rec, through 2006, "C" only went as far as the state championship.

We were very surprised when our rec all star team went to the Western B Nationals in 10u in San Antonio in 2005 to find the tournament filled with many travel teams that were classified as "B" level.

Here B is mostly trophy hunting travel teams. Rec is split up between ASA, NSA, USSSA and Little League, with most of the ASA rec teams declaring themselves B, but they would never step on the field with the trophy hunting B travel teams.

To me it is kind of a mess. NSA, ASA, USSSA compete for teams for their weekend tournaments, so they TD's never tell a coach that should be signing up A, that he is not allowed to sign up B. Every team recruits as an A team.

Soccer would never allow a great team drop down in level to go win a trophy.

One of the nice things that comes out of PGF, at least in our area. Most of the A teams are now playing PGF. So at least now parents can largely figure out what are true A teams.

So, at Western Nationals when more than just CA or So Cal attends other states aren't following the same guidelines when classifying teams? I want a rematch since my dd's team got 3rd at her W. Nationals many moons ago....Oh wait, the top two teams were from So Cal and she plays against many of those players now...darn!
