In the field: BEST FACE MASK/GUARD

My DD wears the Game Face. Thankfully it has never been tested. It might wiegh 2 ozs. has a bit of adjustment, plenty of visual space, and she dosent complain about wearing it. But she knows complaining would do no good.

My DD wears a "Gameface" as well. She's worn it for 2 whole seasons and its worth every penny! The very first time she put it on in practice our coach hit a hard ground ball that took a bad hop and hit her square in the middle of the mask!!! Needless to say she won't take the field without it.( except in the outfield! ) To my understanding they may become mandatory (ASA) in 2009 for pitchers and the corners, however I think all infield positions should wear them. They may look odd but its better than spitting out chickletts on the field!

As pitchers, when they looked down at the mound, they looked through the plastic & could not stand it, plus it might weigh a tad more than the Game Face. Needless to say, they are using the Game Face.

The defender is the only other fielding mask I know of and I was curious if it's better/worse than Gameface. DD has a game face she hasn't used mainly out of preference, her only complaint is that when it's hot it's even hotter w/the mask on. She hasn't needed it for rec ball but I told her she has no choice but to wear it in travel.

I think that the D Mask is a 3rd one. I wear the gameface a couple of hours a day, while sitting on the bucket. It has saved me at least twice.

The Defender doesn't have a strap over the head, so it was slipping down on 2 girls that I had at lessons last night.

Yeah, I googled D Mask and it is different.

DD has worn both the Gameface and Defender masks. Likes the Defender better. Probably because it's tinted and has color options. She keeps the Defender from sliding down by putting her pony tail at the height she wants the strap to stay. I also wear the Defender while on the bucket during practice and it has saved me several times. Vision isn't impaired by the mask in my experience.

Definitely like the Gameface the best. My wife cut out some Moleskin patches and stuck them to the inside to reduce the sweat and slippage, but I think it's just a fact of life that it's going to cause some sweat.

I've seen that Defender a few times, but the Gameface is much more popular. There's also a local girl that wears the eyes-only Lacrosse mask (I think it is) but it honestly looks like a bird beak and doesn't cover much below the cheek bones...

Does anyone have any confirmation on facemasks being required in 2009? My district commissioner says that it was not even mentioned at last winter's ASA national meeting.
