Why would you host and not play? You need a home team to take the "crap schedule" and treat your guests well....if you don't, they won't come back.

I agree. a friends team is hosting and he said they are not playing in it. I have never heard of that, but to each his own. I was just wondering if that was a common practice.

When we host we often do not play 1 more team more money for the fundraiser-
However we bring our gear and uni's in the event of a no show a late drop or something happens-
We will be ready to play.

It is more common for teams hosting to play in the friendly, but that is not always the case. In some organizations, a 12u team may host 14s so their 14u team can play while the 12u works the friendly and keeps the money. Also, parents often complain about not getting to watch the games when they are hosting and playing. So it is not expected that a host plays in the friendly, but they usually do.

Used to run a tournament where the host team played until the elmination round started and then step aside and allows the next team to move into that spot.

Your team gets some playing time, but always allow for a visitor to win the tournament. Use to have a SP team in the area that would always load a tournament so they would win. It lasted three years until my team beat the tar out of them. Curious though that the Championship shirts and trophy were in their team colors

We always believed in acting the gracious host and the teams will keep coming back.
