Recruiting Process- Making the Calls

What's on your mind?

by triplecrown » Mon Jul 25, 2011 11:32 am

First off I understand and respect the fact that the recruiting process is a business. We are talking about in some cases over $200,000 on the line as well as coachs jobs on the line every year, I understand all this and how stressful it is for coachs to get the best. With that said, we had always been told that once you commit to a school you need to make calls to ALL the other schools that were speaking to you through this process, offered you, etc etc... Well for a 15 yr old kid to pick up the phone and give the news to some very respected coachs can be very very difficult. Now some coachs, are true professionals and without mentioning names are "class acts", and when we can actually talk to them in person at a showcase, I will tell them that. Now there are others that seem to lack how shall I say "professionalism", and its sad when here you have a 15 yr old kid talking to a grown adult and get treated like a piece of shit. Sad thing is, we were not an isolated incident and I would have probably would have left it alone had it been isolated, its the same people, good and bad, and we are not talking about Broken Arrow State either, I mean we didnt HAVE to make the calls nor did others, but did out of respect and then you get pissed on, what a joke. Life lessons at a very young age is the way I told my kid to take this, it wont be the last time you piss someone off but, I guess I just didnt expect it from people you really thought a lot of...

First off, at 15 years old it's really hard to know where you want to go to further your education. How does anyone know what they want to do at that point? Some adults still don't know what they want to do when they "grow up". But if a 15 year old is making a commitment to a college, then it shouldn't be a problem with calling up the other schools that were interested in her and telling them what she has chose. After all...she is deciding where she wants to go to COLLEGE. That's a big decision. Now I FULLY agree on the fact that you shouldn't get crapped on just because you didn't choose their school. But put yourself in their position. They are looking at so many kids at once trying to make their program top notch! It is a lot more guess work for college coaches than it is the kids themselves. And, depending on what schools were interested in your daughter, they could be rivals or at least have to face each other once in the season. Competitors!!!

There are many factors here but still no reason for any of them to be disrespectful to a 15 year old "kid"!!! Regardless of who, what, why, where or when!!!
Nice 1st post/reply dirtroad... Welcome to the Bucket!!!
