So what is the purpose of having a 14u team in an 18U/Gold Showcase? I can see playing up, but why that far up?

Opinion of a younger players parent:
I agree with that being too young 99% of the time. However, we have 2 14U teams locally that can beat up on most of our 16's and 18's. They are '93 & '94 bdays that can range from 8th grade to sophomores. And as everyones knows with early verbals, freshman need to start getting their name out there. However, it can't look too good when a 18G team beats a 14U team. I would think scouts would discredit that win. Or even worse vice versa.
