We finally hit the 40 mark :)

What's on your mind?

I know its slow for 12U but last time DD was radared she was around 36-37. This weekend I radered her and she had several pitches hit the 40 mark. So I am seeing the improvment we are looking for. This was in practice, not in a game.

I am thinking of getting the Finch windmill. Our goal for the end of summer is 45MPH. If she hits 45 and is accurate, by end of summer, I feel she is progressing enough to keep up lessons. She is 1st year 12U.

Reinforce the postive with her...she will love to know the feedback..." Look you improved your velocity 4 MPH (better yet...more than 10% !!) with practice.....lets see, if we can get the snap a little better, leg drive longer , I bet we can get another 10%.

This is what I did with DD, a 10 pitching 12U and it really helps as they like feedback on their successes. I also shake my hand every once in a while to show the fast ball stung my hand....she loves it even if she doesn't know I just caught it incorrectly...

Good luck.

Good post. 41 is also pretty good for some of my students. I don't actually put a radar on them. I have never owned one. But, if the girl wants some feed back, I use a glove radar.

My latest story is of a 12U pitching ASA. Dad is behind the screen with a gun. I can see it. It says 42. Next game he comes up to me and tells me she is hitting 50. I always wonder what they think? That I can't tell the difference between 40, 50 and 60? Especially, when I have been catching her.

I never told her, her 36 speed as I didnt want her getting down. She knows most of the 12's are throwing 48-52ish on average. She just knew she had to work on it. I was pretty excited and she knew I was proud of her. I absolutely reinforce the positives. She know nows she is at 40 and we have set a goal for the end of summer of 45. That may be a lofty goal but we can try.

As far as imbelishing speeds, I dont know why people do it. This last weekend we radared a 55 pitcher at 49ish.

My DD's pitching coach has the RevFire which gives you # of revolutions and mph....when he had my DD use it in practice, he would tell her the spins every time (it really helped her follow-through, etc., btw, since she was really focusing on spin) , but wouldn't tell her the speed. He told me afterwards what speed her different pitches were on average.

She's not near as fast as some posters on here talk about, but her motion is consistant for her different pitches and so far in a couple scrimmages this year she has done OK, especially considering she has very little game experience so far :)
Proud fastpitch, baseball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc. Dad :)

Good for her. Nice work.
