QOD; Favorite game to run at practice

What's on your mind?

by eddiez577 » Wed Nov 28, 2018 9:49 am

Do you have a favorite game to run at practice?

Here's a fun one I do.
Two teams of 5, 100 feet apart. They have a border made up of cones in front of them, 100 feet wide. Each has a softball in their hand. They must throw the ball over the dead zone and into the other team's territory. Only one ball may be thrown at a time, and one team at a time. If it lands on the ground in fair territory, or if the a person catches it but then drops it, its a point to the throwing team. Count up to five points for game. It's fun because the players will start using strategies like having a decoy fake a throw but a person across throw instead, or all fake a throw, and only one actually throws. On the defense side, they will try to dive for balls, drop step, behind the back catch, etc. Good game to work on fundamentals of throwing long toss, team work, catching on the run, etc.

Would be better if you lined up the whiny parents and threw the wrenches at them!

When we transitioned up to 23U and Womens Division; it was interesting how many athletes wanted to hang in the parking lot with the parents and coaches in between games ... LMAOWIOAB&RAFO
