Question of Day; What's your batting order?

What's on your mind?

by eddiez577 » Fri Sep 28, 2018 9:27 am

Question of the day...

What is your batting order? best hitter to worse, fastest runner to slowest? jersey numbers? lol.

I've seen many pro MLB and College fastpitch teams go against the tried and true method and get creative with the batting order. For example having the home run hitter bat first so you can get on the board quickly with 1 run, but then that seems like an inefficient use of power.

So, what's your batting order 8-)

1.) Speedy contact hitter
2.) Lefty - good bunter / slapper
3.) Best hitter
4.) Best slugging %
5.) Contact hitter with some power (often 2nd choice for #4 spot)

One mod to yours.
1 speed contact
2 lefty slap speed
3 best batting average
4 Slugger
5 2nd best contact
6 second slugger (incase 1st slugger doesn't)
7 3rd avg
etc...

The obvious flaw here would be that potentially who have 3 long ball hitters in the middle of your line up with possibly no one left to drive in the bottom half should they get on base ... My 2 cents

For the most part I go with what Desmo 13 said..... However, I have at times put the top of my lineup on the bottom against teams that did not know us or ever face us. Worked out beautifully those few times, it all depends I guess.

In the past when I was coaching I always made sure 1-3 were my best hitters. So I moved the 1-3 around some.

I took into consideration that at the end of the tournament my 1-3 hitters got 5-10 more at bats than the rest of the lineup. So who do you want up 5-10 more times during a tournament? I would a lot of times put my "normal" 4 hole in the 3 spots to give her more at bats throughout the tourney and at least would have a shot a scoring 1 run in the first inning.

Also I would consider...usually the leadoff hitter only leads off once in a game.
