The guilt & shame these victims of abuse have to live & deal with (many for decades & some for their lifetimes) lead in many instances to alcohol, drug abuse, cutting (which is more of todays generation than mine) depression & even suicide.

2 mil bail..wow

Hey trophy hunter...if you were politically correct you'd post one about gay guys having consensual sex in public getting arrested

It's really none of my business what you do.
Ladies, if a man tells you he will fix it, he will fix it. There is no reason to remind him about it every six months.

Are you actually arguing it is not worth $6 to keep a convicted sex predator in IL from coaching/umping in CA? Of course since background checks became prevalent, you no longer have cases occur that would get caught by background checks, that is the very point of a check!

What I'm saying is that it is a waste of time and money. THEY DO NOT WORK. It's a lot like the BS waste of BILLIONS of dollars by the DHS. If someone really wants to do something, they will and to quote Billy Jack, "there's not a damn thing you are going to be able to do about it"!

They are a useless, feel-good tool that provides you no more security than a deaf and blind 12yo toothless pug tied up in the back yard. How many cases have you heard of on these boards the past few years where the accused had not been subject to a BI? I cannot remember one.

83% of these types of crimes are committed by first time offenders and the victim and criminal know each other. That $6's is not meant to help with those offenders.

That $6's does help with the 17% re-offenders. Those guys find it very hard to coach a team in today's environment. Prior to Megan's, and background checks, those guys would would often offend in one state, move to another state and re-offend.

Yes, the government wastes billions of dollars that accomplishes little, DHS, HHS, DOD, etc., but not sure how that applies to anything in this conversation.

I do know this... you should go try to create a youth sports, or other youth organization and advertise your "No Background" checks. Ha! that would go over big.

Guess what? They still do. Every state controls access to data. In some states, there is a window limit anyone is permitted to provide information on anyone who is a citizen of that state. For example, an offender in city/state A can get checked in city/state B. If the address is still in A, they will only release information for X number of year.

Repeat offenders who want to repeat will find a way and there isn't anything you can do about it.

Really? You don't understand your standard american false sense of security that proposes it is better to feel good that actually hold people responsible for what happens in the present? Or should that be false american sense of security.

That's okay, I really have no desire to hang with folks who buy socialism as the way to live one's life.

Not sure that background checks are socialist activities per se. To work in a bank every employee has a criminal background check(pretty obvious if you are working with money) Do background checks prevent all - obviously not, but they are certainly a line of defense. Kind of like door locks and hone security systems- will they stop a determined professional-no, but they will deter everyone else.

A $6 background check is a not a panacea and should certainly not be a reason for parents to not be cautious about anyone that has contact with their kids, but to not use it because of some socialism paranoia is a little ridiculous

You will have to explain the socialist comment to me. I don't get what you are saying.

I was suggesting a free market concept. You are free to create an org, just like others here have. If you create one that is popular and meets peoples needs, it will take off. If you think loads of people are looking for organizations that do not do background checks, then you should create a No Background Checks organization. You will have exactly zero parents join.
