What's on your mind?

Would a background check have shown that Anthony Sota isn't his real name? Teams don't do this.

Background checks are next to worthless. Background checks dont work like a Tom Cruise movie, able to predict a crime before it happens. Sota has been coaching for years with no previously known issues like this. One day he crossed the line. Once crossed, that line no longer existed for him.

Pair of Aces, your responses were excellent. Thanks for your service.

The onus is on us as parents. Kids have way more freedom today than in years past, and technology has given them easy access to that part of the world that they need to be protected from the most. Dont shirk this responsibility and dont ever take their safety, well being and innocence for granted. They are still just kids with a ton of negative influences on them.

I applaud those girls who were their for their friend and teammate.

Whether this gets pleaded out or goes to trial, there are innocent people here whose live have been shattered in so many ways. My heart breaks for them.

Background checks are like locking doors and home alarms- they won't catch everyone, but they will prevent the amateurs.

All organizations should have them, but the parents are key. You must maintain an open communication with your daughters and keep your eyes open

I concur with OTB & JR regarding background checks

Moefoe & all parents should read about this predator

I believe this belongs here, after reading it, I copied it.

While I do not know this man or his family or those involved I will say this.
I do not accept apologizes. Your actions and deeds are who you are, words alone can not beguile any anguish or trouble that was caused to others for your misguided actions. Acknowledging it and taking responsibility is a great start to allow those to begin to heal and recover. I find it remarkable that this was posted at all. I don't feel it brash, or looking for sympathy, I find it refreshing to see someone stand up and take responsibility for their misconduct. and apologize for a change.

I want to apologize to your family, friends, and especially you. I crossed boundaries with inappropriate text messages to you and for that I am not only embarrassed and disappointed in myself but also very apologetic. At some point, the immoral life that I was living affected your life negatively and in a catastrophic way. I wish this chapter in your life could be erased. I understand that due to my uninfluenced actions I have caused chaos and have brought unprovoked problems to your life and to those who surround you, namely your family, friends, and people in the softball community. I want you and all others to know that never at any point did you do or say anything to warrant my atrocious behavior.
I was put in a position of trust and authority with teenagers and I broke that trust. I am an adult who should have set great examples and protected the players and instead I became the kind of person who I try to protect my own kids from. I would like to also set the record straight that you have not lied about things surrounding this situation and I am saddened for any harm that I may have caused to you and your family's reputation. I am an adult and I am 100% to blame for this situation. I am deeply sorry and embarrassed by my behavior. I will take steps to not cause further pain by staying away from softball and away from all involved. I pray each and every day that my actions do not deter your hopes, wishes and dreams of your future. I am sincerely sorry.

Where did this come from? Are there any legal proceedings going on?

I do appreciate his candor, because that should save the girl(s) a lot more grief. It takes guts to do that.

However, a person in charge of any kind of large company/organization is usually very, very good at telling people what they want to hear. I had a difficult time reading it with sincerity. But, it is good for everyone if he steers clear of youth sports.
