Of course she would have a positive attitude when you met her, she is a salesperson and needs to present an image of caring, all the while her REAL plan is to drain as much of our money as she can, into her bank account. If she came off as none caring, not as many would fall victim to her nonsense?
There is absolutely NO GOOD REASON for a catcher to attend weekly group sessions - its a waste of time and we all know that, but it happens. Why does it happen? Because she is not honest enough to tell these kids she allegedly cares so much about, that this is a waste of time. She would NEVER do that because taking YOUR MONEY is the goal here, everything else is a charade.
One of the most highly regarded assets for a catcher is her ability to throw runners out. Now, with all the lousy throwing mechanics with catchers that frequent her "weekly group sessions", it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that she is not addressing the players needs.
What respectable "COACH" after seeing that a catcher has an awful throw down to 2B, would spend time working on her blocking or framing (in a group), instead of focusing on the one thing that will be needed more than anything else - to get her in college? NONE (although this is what is happening with the so-called COACH you mentioned above).
You see, identifying and having a plan to work on an individual flaws - to make them more proficient, is time consuming and this person you mention is more concerned about the VOLUME she brings in, rather than the product she turns out.
She will ride the coattails of the talented kids (because she has to create the illusion it's all because of her lessons, that this kid is so good), and the kids that aren't so good that religiously attended every weekly group session - she will take NO Credit for their lousy skills, because "That's On Them"!
Reminds me of the faith healer; Benny Hinn. If you weren't actually healed when he put his hands on you, it wasn't that Benny was a fraud and a scammer, it was that you didn't have enough faith. You see, it's never the fault of the person taking the money, each and every week, the blame has to be shed off of them, onto the person who they are teaching, or healing... Otherwise the JIG is UP and the money dries up (and there is RENT to pay on the BIG Building)!
When I met Jen she was either still in college or had just graduated. She was not selling anything. Just giving the catchers on our team some coaching. Those catchers clearly appreciated, and I felt they played better after working with her. Jen was helping them for free.
How long did Jen work with your DD?
