Wow, how low can you go, video the other teams practices. I just took notes - lots of them and I still have them. When I was starting out and going 0-2 every weekend, I started going over to the guys practices that were on the other side of that 0-2 and took notes on what they practiced on, the drills, how long, that kind of stuff. Other than dress, I am not in Belicheck's league, but maybe he wasnt learning from the teams that whupped up on him.

I think every team should be videoing the Patriots practices. Its funny how during the regular season, they look almost mortal. Then comes the playoffs and out comes their capes - I truly enjoy watching the Patriot's offense.

You rarely see Bellecheck not have a good game plan ... Patriots problems this year were mostly on defense I believe ... injuries etc. ...

What difference does it make if someone else sees your practice? Nothing stops or affects good execution and performance and THAT is why the Pats win, not because of video tape.

I'll take the Billy Jack approach, let them steal the signs cause there isn't a damn thing they can do to defeat good play.

Well, in the case that was being discussed about New England Pats ... The difference it makes is that it is against the rules and cheating ... And New England was cheating to get a perceived advantage over the New Jersey Jets in that case ( and who knows how many other times/teams without getting caught ) ... I agree with you that the other team still has to execute ... But, executing is easier when you know what the other team is doing or going to do ... most important : IT IS AGAINST THE RULES AND CHEATING !

I agree- cheating is cheating.
They were also accused of filming the St Louis Rams walk-throughs prior to the Superbowl. I believe there were other complaints besides the Jets too

From Wikipedia

The 2007 New England Patriots videotaping controversy, widely dubbed "Spygate,"[1][2] refers to an incident in the 2007 National Football League season when the New England Patriots were disciplined by the National Football League (NFL) for videotaping New York Jets' defensive coaches' signals during a September 9, 2007 game from a sideline location, an act deemed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to be in violation of league rules. After an investigation, the NFL fined Patriots head coach Bill Belichick $500,000 (the maximum allowed by the league) for his role in the incident, fined the Patriots $250,000, and docked the team their original first-round selection in the 2008 NFL Draft.[

Where there is smoke, there is fire, also from Wikipedia;

On November 27, 2010, the NFL fined the Denver Broncos and their head coach Josh McDaniels, who served as an assistant coach under Belichick from 2001–2008, $50,000 each after Broncos video director Steve Scarnecchia videotaped the San Francisco 49ers' walkthrough practice prior to the October 30, 2010 NFL International Series game in Wembley Stadium, London.[68] Scarnecchia, the son of longtime Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia, was a video assistant for the Patriots in 2001–2004, before joining the Jets' video department for the 2006–2007 seasons.[68] As a result of the NFL's findings, Scarnecchia was fired by the Broncos, and is subject to a hearing regarding a possible ban from the NFL for twice being involved in an integrity-of-game policy violation.

Using video of a walkthru practice in football is a big time no-no.

Superdome controversy: Rams to sue Pats over alleged taping
Published: Friday, February 15, 2008, 4:51 PM Updated: Friday, February 15, 2008, 5:17 PM
By David Gladow, NOLA.com
AP Photo / David J. PhillipThe news just keeps getting worse for Roger Goodell and Robert Kraft.
Spygate just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
In the latest twist stemming from allegations that the New England Patriots taped the St. Louis Rams' practices at the Superdome prior to their Super Bowl victory in 2002, several Rams players are responding.
Legally.
The Associated Press is reporting that former Rams player Willie Gary, among others, is filing a $100 million lawsuit against the Patriots, owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick, all of whom defeated the Rams 20-17 in Super Bowl XXXVI.
This is a potential landmark story, as I have difficulty remembering a similar precedent in sports history. A lawsuit over improperly gained results, while in theory seeming like a perfectly reasonable thing, opens a whole can of worms few people are going to want to see taint the sports they love so much. Injecting reason into an enterprise that by its very nature is completely unreasonable does not strike me as a particularly good idea.
What's next? Will all of the Chargers' opponents from 2006 sue the Chargers for an inappropriate result gained from playing Shawne Merriman (who was suspended four games that season for steroid usage)? Will every team that lost to Indiana since Kelvin Sampson took over now sue that university?
If it can be argued that someone suffered emotional distress, let alone financial loss, as a result of someone else cheating, wouldn't that then apply to all cases? And let's be honest, cheating is rampant at ALL levels of competitive athletics.
I'm a little stunned by the news, but I am curious as to what everyone else thinks. Should the Patriots be held financially accountable for any wrongdoing they might have done on the field of play?

I don't disagree it is against the rules and the team should be held accountable for those violations. I don't think it is an appropriate rule. The rule should be the opponent's employee should not be permitted on the property. The video is available from every game the team has played. Another ludicrous rule is that the teams are required to report all injuries and players' status. It provides two people an obvious advantage: opposing coaches and gamblers. So, why would one be demanded and the other outlawed.

Personally I think there is more to gain with the mind games played with the other team than by getting any tips from a video.
