Why do people have to lie?

One time I told the coach the truth. He was freaking out, because obviously, most parents lie. To this day, 3 years later, he is still butt hurt. He told another coach & a bunch of parents, who eventually told me, that I was a "Psycho." Because I told him the truth? (As I saw it!) Yeah, maybe I was a bit passionate and used some "colourful" words I maybe shouldn't have used, but so what!

That's why I like to take the "thank you for the opportunity, best of luck" approach. The coach knows why and what he did or didn't do.

Now Queenie, don't get all upset by some coach spreading rumors about your psychotic episodes... next time you feel so passionate as to employ "colorful" language, feel free to look me up.

Why do people feel the need to lie when they leave a team? Why can't they strap on a set and be honest and tell the coach why they are leaving or even that they are leaving? Do they really think coaches buy "my DD is tired" or "she needs a break" or "she not into it"? Do they not think that EVERYONE knows they are going to show up 4 days later at a tryout down the street. I know its the nature of the beast.... that doesn't mean I have to like it!

Did you ever stop to think they were telling the truth.. "My DD is tired..of you!" (but decided to be considerate of your feelings)
"She needs a break, from You!" (again being considerate)
"She is not into it, playing on a team with you" Oh and most of the other parents feel the same way!

Maybe you just have a really decent parent who would like something more for their child and considering all the drama you are stirring up from this post, they made the right decision.

Maybe people aren't comfortable with people of authority on the team, say a manager, coach, coordinator. Maybe people feel they have to give a vague excuse or "lie" because of the retribution they might possibly receive from the people in charge. Maybe they are afraid that they will be trashed on hey bucket or talked about behind their back to other managers from other teams. Nothing says "ill-will" like calling another manager and bad mouthing a former player. Let it go and move on, you should focus on the new players and parents on your team and try not to make the same mistakes you did with the previous players and parents. Good Luck!

I agree, I have seen and heard of some shady sh*t coaches pull in regards to this situation

That opens up a whole new topic, I have a dad that quit for his daughter via text message and will not return my phone calls, text messages, or emails to get the TEAMS equipment. We have a contract that clearly stats what is required to be returned. What the heck is equipment with another teams logo all over it going to do for you anyway? Any suggestions???

It is true though, I do not care why they decided to quit as I have a pretty good idea, although a face to face would have been more appropriate...

If they signed a contract that states there is a certain amount due if equipment is not returned, you can turn them into ASA and they will not be able to play with another team until it is.

After nearly six months of trying to get equipment from a pair of girls who just up and left and never even said anything, I called the girls' new coach and told him that they had not turned in their equipment to us. That's all it took. I arranged a time for me to go pick up the team equipment and uniforms from one and another dropped it off at our doorstep. Nice to see that coaches can be stand-up guys and hold their players accountable.

I am a new parent to fastpitch and have still not decided if I want my daughters to play this sport. I was directed to this website to see how the parents interact and to view the inner-workings of children's team sports.

I would have to say after reading this thread I am having serious doubts about allowing my daughters to play in a sport with parents like "yawhatever" potentially in charge. The "high school drama" tone of this is really too much. Calling someone a liar and setting off what seems to have become a very emotion-filled instead of fact-filled thread is really sad. What's wrong with trying out for different teams? Do you actually need permission?

I was raised that if you don't have anything nice to say about someone then say nothing at all.

If so many parents are liars, as according to this thread, then why bother letting your children play? Why let your children see this behavior? If it lands here in writing it must show on the field or in the bleachers!

I really don't feel at this point that this is going to be a good experience for my girls.
Do I need permission to NOT sign up? Or will I be called a liar too?
