Is it OK to intentionally lose a game

What's on your mind?

Yup. I played a role in bringing my 2 evil spawns into this world which means they are my responsibility. I would never expect any coach my kids have had to be concerned about anything but the game they are coaching and what they think is best for the team. In sum, coaches do the coaching and parents do the parenting.

I will say many coaches do try to set the right example, etc. and I think that is admirable and to their credit.

Several years back, A team at the Central Cal ASA 14U Association Championship was forced to forfeit games because they had girls step off base early in an attempt to lose the game. The umpire crew determined they were "hastening" the game (Rule 5. Section 4. E). The team was only playing in the tournament because the players and their families wanted to play at Western Nationals being held in Clovis. The team was doing better than expected, (perhaps because there were other teams who wanted to do the same thing). The team's parent organization had a rule that teams had to play in the highest level National Tournament for which they qualified. The loss worked, but Central Cal ASA was not happy. They removed the coaches and the team was DQ because there were no remaining coaches on the roster to coach the next game. The team was determined to have not finished the tournament and was told they would not be allowed to continue on to any further level of championship play.

Play the game with integrity. Rest players as needed but don't try to intentionally lose. It may wind up actually hurting you in unexpected ways.

Central Cal ASA lacks the requisite power to remove a coach from a team. What a coach does during a game that is not hurtful to his/her players is none of your nor Central Cal ASA's business.
