Extrapolating on my assumtion....your daughter was being recruited as #2, or #3 pitcher. This is information you should have gathered prior to joining the team.

If you knew that going in, it would still be a normal expectation that as a #2 or #3, you'd get mound time early in tournaments and in pool play, get to pitch in late innings of a blowout, and sit as the team gets deeper into tournaments. I think what the message here is, the #1 is going to get all the mound time until SHE decides she wants to sit. I don't think that's a normal situation.

I made the comment above " ... what type of organization throws they're #1 every game ? " ... and a partial answer just struck me ... the team my DD's left 'mid season' had nothing to do with pitching time although one DD was their #3 ( and a weak #3 at that ) ... but they pitched their #1 every game even though the #2 was just as good , if not at times a better hurler she was certainly a better fielder ... It made no difference whether it was pool play or the finals ... the only rhyme or reason was the political manuevering of a Coach trying to structure his travel team to ensure his DD a spot on the Varsity HS team by keeping them playing together through the summer ... the Father of the #1 knew better and allowed it to go on ...

Spoke with "D-fense" via PM.....not the scenario I was assuming. But my comment wasn't necessarily specific to him/her. I was speaking very general and short with my wordage.

I agree with your expaectations of when a 2-3 pitcher should see time......but we're both just going on assumption, based on our own expectations. Parents (players) should dig deeper, and find out EXACTLY what a particular coach means by a #2 or #3 pitcher, and how much playing time that player should expect.

What do you do when your coach tells you and your kid that you're welcome to stay on the team, but your kid won't get much playing time because as much as he's attempted to rotate, the #1 told him she wants to play every game and he says "This is her team and what she wants, she gets." Do you 1) Move on and find a new team or 2) stay and sit the bench?

Stay.....if you want to play for a manager that has no control over his team.

To all:
My dd just left a team, in our state, mid-season in 10U. We were on this team when it formed, worked all fundraisers, at every practice (even in the rain when only 5 or 6 showed up) and never complained. My dd started in the outfield, worked at catcher, could pitch if needed, worked in the infield and started many, many games in the infield. Now comes midseason last spring, a girl on another team in the organization and her dad joins the team and takes over and she plays wherever the new coach wants. Not my dd's position but move others out and makes error after error and never gets moved or sits. Next season, fall for us, my dd gets hurt, ankle sprain, this coaches dd picks up for my dd through practice games and 1 tournament, but head coach promises dd that her position is safe as long as she continiues to work hard and improves which she has. Now comes next tournament and dd completely out of the picture even though she continues to excel and one of the top hitters on the team. Not a parents view but by the books, helped win several games including championship games.

Here comes this spring, same thing, excellent hitter, practices the same position over and over but come game time plays elsewhere or does not play while the new coaches dd continues in this position with many errors and continuously does not perform at the plate. My dd, in the meantime, is losing interest in playing. I have received many phone calls from 3 of the top teams in the state to beg for her playing on their team. Hey, what would all of you so-called experts do. I did what was best for my dd and moved her. She is happy, gets along great with her team, coaches and other parents and is playing to her potential.

I talked to the head coach of the previous team on several occasions to no avail and our, as well dd's decision was to move. Those of you that do not agree can well, you know what. I am the father of this girl, spending countless hours and dollars to play this sport and I will do what is best. If she is not happy at this age, what is the point. She lost confidence in the coach and I lost respect for the new coach.

Everyone has their own reasons for everything and should not be lumped into the same pile of crap that some of you are spewing.

That's a classic......begged to play for others, but somehow riding the bench on her own team.
