What's on your mind?

Good news is, as my friend Scott says, any program violently implemented will result in improvement. Turns out hard work matters.

I'm not a Coach...dont have the patience for it really...Uncle Sam made me that way somewhat...using a tazer isnt an option (jk) But I have a very refined BS meter on folks who claim to know stuff...I live in the deep South, I may talk slow but Im not a dumbass ;) Despite reports from some of my friends on here ;) I can smell a 'Snake oil salesman'...which that's a term a friend from SoCal, who is a very very successful softball guy used about a 'high level 'Coach in we know...

BLUF, each kids has place on the team,a job to do,...be it a slapper, a base hitter or a power hitter...which is based on a kids size and ability level...I sought out the training my kid needed for her 'spot'...We use what AL,, FL, OR uses...some other schools also...and regardless of how shes gets to contact...keep the power V,or 'the box' weight mostly on back foot, yet balanced...front leg 'locked' back leg driving hip forward..hands across body, not around it....palm up, palm down at contact...
If you have to assign the 2 'disciplines' folks argue over...shes linear hands, rotational hips...but not 100% of the cookie cutter blueprint of either...
While some gadgets help, none will achieve the effect desired, if its not used...some are plain junk...none are instant fixes, period. Back on topic, this tee has some benefit, if its used, and used a LOT...but its simply a tool, not a magic stand...

A couple yrs ago I found this site...
I don't think folks who are new here, truly realize the cross section of people and level of experience who post and read this stuff...some, not all mind you, but there's a LOT who do know 'the deal'....Albeit some are creepy as Hades, trolls, whatever...every site has those...some with a personal axe to grind or gripe about the un-fairness of life in general...avoid them
..Many represent playing ball at the NCAA, WCWS and Professional level...My thought process on that is..."Why try to re-invent the wheel?' I have met some incredible people on here...who have helped my kid and I in many ways...
I value their friendship and look forward to their camaraderie...softball related or not...They are like family to me...even though they think I talk funny ;)
I have asked many questions and gotten some GRADE A help...and maybe even helped some...I know Ive passed on what Ive learned here, to parents whose kids have benefited... But its about the kids...not me...I'm not gonna play College ball...I'm just a mean looking softball Dad, whose actually a Teddy Bear...with a really good tan

I should add when I talk about hitting I'm talking about rbi middle of the order hitters. If your kid is more Ichiro or Autumn Champion then disregard my thoughts.

Kind of figured that when I saw that most of the hitters on the videos were biggens.

I was thinking more line drive, work the gaps, hit for average, situational and occasionally go yard type of hitter. A multiple threat. Tony Gwynn style.

No I'm not saying that. There are plenty of girls who can drive it out in 14U and younger who don't break 110. I don't care if you hit it out or not though. As long as you make the outfielders run back toward the fence I'm happy. Doubles change everything. I'm just talking about the kid who wants to drive the ball as opposed to the lefty serving it the other way (like Gwynn or Ichiro) or the slapper playing the short game till they come in and then dumping it over the infield's head. I'll take some of those in my line up too but I'm interested in helping the kid who wants to make the outfielders go to the fence and pick it up or better.

After Ted Williams wore him out about it even Gwynn started adding some power to his game late in his career. Ichiro can hit it out too if you ask him to. It's just not his role most of the time. I have no problem with the table setter on base types with speed who play great defense. All the pieces of the puzzle don't look alike.

Not quite, he said any reasonable strategy. It's an adaptation of a famous quote by Gen. Patton.

Now, you and I might disagree on what constitutes a REASONABLE strategy, and I suspect I'd be more conservative than most on the range of "acceptable" mechanics. But I suspect you take my point.
