The Master of the Moronic Strawman hath spoken. All hail Battle.... Knower of Nothing, Icon of Idiocy, and the Prince of Nonsense.

Here is a person so stupid, so blinded by the water cooler mentality, that they would knowingly recommend an approach which has an increasing probality that one's DD will be injured and might possibly lose the ability to play the game.

Nobody ever suffered an overuse injury from taking time off.

I await the next strawman from the Mensa of Mindlessness.

What's the matter Sam? Did you forget to wear your depend last night and make a poo poo in the bed... waking up in a bad mood?

Most normal people (that doesn't include you by the way) read this article and think to themselves-what a talented girl- but not you... no sireee. All you see is a dooms day but that's to be expected from an extremist such as yourself. You look for any crevice to insert your estrogen driven antics into any situation.

Do you know this girl? How about the parents, do you know them? Have you even talked to anyone that personally knows them? I noticed you never said anything about a 12 or 13 year old developing a rise ball. How long has she been working on that since you know them so well? I would be concerned about that more than anything but you're probably too stupid to know what I'm talking about.

I liked your 3rd grade wit at the beginning of your post. It's right on par for you.

Most normal people don't have the years of experience I possess, nor have they coached the number of young ladies I've coached and coached against. My experience allows me to identify red flags, which I quoted from the article. I understand that your experience pales in comparison to mine, so your ignorance is easily explained. I don't need to speak to anyone to conclude what is becoming more and more likely. The "abnormal" posters on this board (I.e. the posters with the most experience) recognize the problem with year round sports and are attempting to inform people like yourself.....the "normal" uninformed, so that possibly they can avert a physical disaster for their DDs. Your advocation of "whistling past the graveyard" is destructive and likely dangerous because there may be some posters who might actually listen to your rankling.

Every day there is more and more data supporting my advice, including support from people like Tommy John and Dr. James Andrews (fellow extremists).

You may want to check YOUR diaper.....it stinks when you're around.

...and there it is ladies and gentlemen.

It's really not about them. It's about you. It's about you browbeating people into your hysterics. You can't stand to see someone having success or so it seems. Parents need to mindful of overuse. You and your cronies take it to a new level.

The topic is "8th Grader clocked at 66+ at OnDeck camp"... not I am Sam I am. You're too much of an idiot to see that evidently.

That's what you come back with? More straw. Come on. You can do better than that. So typical of you. You can't win the argument on its laurels, so you attack the poster. Classic Battle...the Anonymous Sage of Texas. Thank you, yet again, for another uninformed opinion. Can't wait for the next one.

Not uncommon to practice that much early on - saw a lot of kids that did that , had the good fortune to run into the most experienced ladies fast pitcher in the world. Her suggestion was rather than throw for an hour a day, 5 days a week, as someone on here use to berate people for not doing every week , was to have quality practices rather than quantity. What she meant by that was simple - instead of throw 30 of each pitch, and I am talking placement pitches as well as screw, etc, was to throw 6 perfects of each pitch. For us, we set up cycles. She had to throw 7 cycles - and if she screwed up a pitch, that cycle started over until it was a perfect set of how every many pitches she threw. This pitcher, Lisa Fernandez , told me she usually took off the late fall, to r and r. We didn't early on, but had no choice as DD2 got into JH and school sports, with volleyball and basketball in the fall and then track in the spring. It worked itself out - but one thing we found that was pretty important is to avoid mixing volleyball and pitching work in the same period, using those shoulders and arms way too much. My opinion basketball with any other sport is not a good idea, but that's me.

I knew two girls who threw (and I clocked consistently) 58-59 - as a 10 year old, of course 11 inch ball and 35 feet. Back then I thought those girls would be like the girl this article is about - but one maxed out at 62 in high school and travel, but suffered from wildness forever, another major detriment to her success was her pitching coach was her dad. Another was I thought then and still do was a true super star, she was popping 65-66 in high school but had insane parentals and once college coaches met the parentals , backed away. One of the sweetest kids I ever knew, but insane parentals will end it when recruiting starts or if you get past that, college coaches don't need to deal with that crap and don't, as was proven back then.

Another kid from our area threw in the mid to high 60's but struggled every time I saw her - our teams would regularly beat her. I was amazed and still am that she is getting a shot at the top of the top. I am happy for her - and hopefully will have to apologize for having my jaw hit the deck when I was told she made it to the top of the top, when she is successful there. While I caught for the other two studettes , when I caught for my daughter, I never caught to the third one or ever saw her workout, though we faced her in games many times.

Hi Donnie,

Lisa Fernandez played rec ball until she was 14 years old.

Here's an interesting article.

Yep, that's what she told me. One of her big regrets is that she didn't have travel ball earlier so she could have been having fun like my girls did. Edited to add: Our experience facing socal teams at B national events were that your rec was way different than ours - like I have said before, people reading these posts need to understand there is a major difference between fastpitch in different parts of the country. The team my dd2 played on that went to B nats was by definition a travel team, but it was run by people who do not follow rules - we understood she was going to be playing A ball - but that changed, plus the ASA commissioner here was as crooked as those people were and allowed it to happen. No big deal, that's South Texas.

In our part of the country, if your dds are athletic like a lot of our daughters (those of us who participate in these discussions), rec is not going to be an enjoyable experience for very long. My dds wanted to play with other kids like them - and in this part of the world, that meant doing travel ball.

Hi Donnie,

The teams played nowhere near the number of games back then that they play today. My middle DD played TB back in 1994. There were less than 25% of the teams at that Tim than ther are today.

My issue isn't with TB as much as it is with playing non-stop for years. If the kids want to play at a higher level at younger ages that's fine if you give them some time off. 4-6 months would be huge and make a big difference in the propensity for these injuries.

Your kids had great genetics and their bodies could take the wear and tear. Lots of other kids can't. The rub is that you only find out who can take it and who can't when it's too late to do anything about it.

Hope things are going well with you and your family. You are one of the men in this game that I am proud to know.

Well I was going to back off but since you're waiting...

Attacking the poster you say? Let me refresh your memory. Your first post to me in this thread...

I would love to talk civil to you but you make it impossible. Many here probably feel the same way. Like you, I know that overuse is a problem. Of all the girls that I know with overuse injuries, most of them had breaking ball pitches at too young of an age. IMO that is the root cause because of the number of girls that I personally know. You have been told many times about rec ball in other areas but you choose to ignore it. You see things from your perspective instead of trying to see it from others. That's a problem in many areas when it comes to the condescending way you talk to people. But if you want to proceed with this "strawman" and "water cooler' analogy then, as ridiculous as it is, carry on...
