7 year old girl kicked off of boy's baseball team!

A topic dear to my heart.... My daughter played only baseball thru 12YO All Stars. A few days after her final baseball game of the summer I took her to tryouts for the best FP team in our area. She hadn't hit or thrown a softball since she played rec league at 5 years old. Well, the tryouts were very competitive! She struggled hitting as it was much different than overhand, turned some heads with her speed and arm. She made the organizations 14U second team. Practiced all winter with her team and played Babe Ruth (big diamond) and FP that spring and summer. She led her FP team in every offensive category and her "second" team finished ahead of the "A" team at states. I think she had 4 HRs that weekend.

In the fall as a 13YO 8th grader she gets the call up to play with the 18U showcase team and hasn't looked back. Had a great season that summer with the showcase team. Played every game and batted top 5 all year. This coming year will be her 3rd playing softball.

I beleive 100% that she would not be the player she is today if she had not played baseball. Grinding it out day to day against the boys made her push herself. Hearing an opponent make some stupid comment about a girl on the other team made her push harder and train herself to block eveything out and focus on the game. She will probably play her final season of Babe Ruth this year and I would not have changed anything.

Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken is a competitor to Little league. Here in CT towns are split down the middle-some have Little league, Some Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken

Babe Ruth is on the 60/90 diamond and for players 13-15. We are in MA. The reason she played baseball was because our town softball was/is so bad..... from HS all the way down to learn to play 5 and 6 year olds. No coaching... no desire to improve the program. Everything just seemed dumbed down for the girls.

The dumbing down is happening here - starting with the parents. In fairness, it could have to do with people not being able to afford to travel up to where the big dogs played. When we were doing this, we traveled most weekends up north and really learned the game from the competition up in the Houston, Dallas, Austin areas.

I would recommend that all of you have your daughters quit softball and play baseball, especially if they pitch. In baseball, there will be 5-6 pitchers on the team, your daughter would be placed on a maximum pitch count per week and likely wouldn't throw more than 3-5 innings during a single week. She would be pitching from a greater distance away from the batter and she would be pitching in a sport that recognizes that they have a problem with bats that are too hot.

Another liberal using their child as a tool for the advancement of their social agenda.

This is a pretty stupid thing to say for several reasons:

1) These are 7 year olds for one

2) I am as conservative as most, but even I realize that my daughter(as well as most the daughters of HB posters) have benefited from a "liberal" program known as Title IX

3) As pointed out before- 7 year old girls are just as "competitive" as 7 year old boys--- I find the whole idea of changing to a more competitive league a little dubious

4) My experience is that girls sports get a raw deal in most places- even when they are more successful than the boys



Having said all that-in the long run she should be playing FP. My experience is that girls that played BB and then change later have a real tough time adjusting.

Title IX is not a liberal policy. It was policy of equal representation for tax $$ and funding.

This lady should just move on. By the looks of the video, the girls does not appear to be a very coordinated player. She needs to go find a team that fits her daughter's needs instead of grandstanding.

And yes, liberals grandstand against logic.

John Tower thought it was a"liberal " policy- so did many deriders at the time. I for one think it was sound policy. Perhaps world you should actually try to understand some real history.

I agree ... She needs to move on ... WTF does this uncoordinated 7 year old think she is ?
