The Strike Zone

Until we have a little computer behind the plate calling balls and strikes, then I guess we just have to play on. It is part of the game. They are human, they call them how they see them, most of them do a great job.... get over it.

You have no idea how many umpires would LOVE to have balls and strikes called by a computer. It would be welcomed by the umpires and despised by the players and coaches.

Go ahead and mechanizeit, fine by us. Bring it on!

Uhh.....the coaches would LOVE to have a consistent strike zone called each game....a computer would do that....be careful what YOU wish for, Mike. Its always funny listening to you THREATEN to call what is actually in the rule book. Just do it for one year....as an experiment....and come back on here and report about your findings....you're an analytical guy....it'll be like SuperSize Me.

Ive tried it many times. In fact, whenever I need a huge strike zone, thats what I call.
I've had to eject over it. People literrally go crazy. "Blue that was over her head" "blue that was below her knees".

You will get grief the entire game calling em that high and that low as described in the book. It is painful to endure, because they are not teaching kids to swing a ball at their face... and a ball with the bottom part at the arm pit usually has the top part around their chin... wonderful text book strike. Riseballers will LOVE it.

So what ends up INVARIABLY HAPPENING is they start the heckles to their DD's.. swing at everything, hes just calling strikes automatic.

So pretty soon, the batters are swinging at stuff that is not even hitable.

It really makes for a miserable game.


Youre full of it Sam and you know it. But we've had this argument before so you wont admit it.. but if I ever get the rainwater teams.. I'll call em way high and low for ya. We'll test ya.

I wont torture the other team with a horrible zone, but we'll see if you really like it.

Sorry Wade, but I wouldn't mind it a bit....at least the hitters would be able to actually make contact with the ball....much more so than giving the pitcher a full ball outside the plate....and much better than calling nothing but belt high down the middle. Hope we get you for a game some time.

I had filly gold this year in stockton.

We have to run into each other at some point.. the pond is only so big!

Kids can hit a full ball off the plate sam.. unless your girls are using 26 inch bats. The rise balls at their face and the drops that end up in the dirt by the time they reach the catcher.. not so much.

Actually, the good pitchers will be throwing the ball chest high in the inside corner. If your batter makes contact, the ball isn't going far very fast. When the batter backs off the plate to extend on that pitch, the knee high outside corner will not be reachable. But that's okay, because the computer isn't going to know that and ring them all up.

BTW, there have been numerous videos made that show the batter can easily reach and make good contact with a pitch 6-9 inches (2 balls) outside.

Obviously... some peoples DD's did not do so well so we have the biannual strike zone whine fest.

There are the hitters and those who dont hit very well.

Its not dependent on the blues. Bustos did not get "all good strike zone umps" and now she is on the Olympic Team. She can plain hit the ball. Maybe your DD cannot hit the ball.

So... let me help you guys out who are counting on blue to help your DD become a hitter.

A batter would have to be FALLING towards a pitch 6-9 inches off the plate...and if they actuall make contact....the batter might hit 1 out of 1,000 of those pitches "hard".
