What's on your mind?

by Battle » Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:45 pm

It's behavior like this that gives sports a bad name. So it happens in the big leagues....who cares? Doesn't mean that it is right. The fact is that intentionally trying to cause physical harm to another person is criminal.

I didn't know sports had a bad name. I don't think physical harm was the intent.

If you can't see the contradiction then I would never be able to explain it any better.

It took me 20 minutes of reading 15 pages to catch up here...
that said, your video examples illustrates why absolute control by officials, leagues and governing sport bodies is paramount. Otherwise, organized sports would not exist. There can be no tolerance for what happened, no matter how bad an official is. If there are no repercussions for bad behavior, it would send a green light for this to happen again and again, it would erode our sport. I was talking to a fellow long time coach about this incident, and we agreed that the new normal is that a camera or video camera is always on you and the team, as the occupy folks say, "the whole world is watching"

And when Pro coaches misbehave they get fined, period. End of discussion. And then they say thank you for the fine and heartily apologize.

My point was bad stuff happens but the sport moves on. From the lowest level to the highest level. Everyone has a bad day. Anything that can happen will happen. So just relax. Punish them yes. Crucify them no. Kids chasing that dream of playing college ball are usually pushed pretty hard by mommy and daddy. I hope that this bad decision and the pressure of this video doesn't ruin their chances. I've heard stories of what kids do to themselves when the pressure is overwhelming. I pray this won't be the case....

A private part of hell should be saved for the idiots that have been calling the wrong coach about the wrong kid.

Pitch fork crew wants to get excited about something, that would be a good place to start.

I must have missed something here......and I don't want to go back and read 15 pages worth of entries again, but are you ok with what happened? I think a lot of lessons can be learned here and better to learn them now before the players go to college. Imagine this happening at the next level, players would be suspended, program sanctioned, coach possibly fired, scholarships possibly lost, you really don't what to mess with the NCAA. But somehow it is ok for an incident like this to happen in travel ball?

I liked you when you were a whole bunny with a pancake on your head. I have always admired and respected your approach and love to the game, Yes I am giving you a rib shot, on this matter we just happen to disagree.
I love this sport, shit I go to games my dd isn't playing in to get my fix.(I was at this game)
I did choose my dd's coaches wisely, I chose those coaches that gave positives, and played positive.
I knew if I'd put her on a team that was stern and harsh like the true top teams can be, she might be playing volleyball or in a mall instead of being in college where she is now.
If you are saying, we the parents are wrong for not approving the behavior on the video. Please try one more time with me.
It is the end of fall season, before you know it the diatram of HS ball will start and all this will be behind.
Convince me. I am getting dizzy going around the pole.
It is all in perspective.
Is what is on video good or bad for the sport?
PS Alwaysimprove: my fork doesn't go beyond HB...it stays in the forum of debate.

My point was that everyone who participates in organized sports at any level is accountable to a sanctioning organization.
